The difference between grapes and raisins

The difference between grapes and raisins

Many people confuse grapes and raisins. Let me explain the difference to you in detail.

The difference between grapes and raisins

Grapes are a type of grape, also known as "American grapes" or "American raisins"; they are known as the "king of grapes" for their crisp, large fruit, sweet and sour taste, excellent storage and transportation resistance, and good quality. Grapes are deciduous vines with palmate leaves and compound racemes, usually conical in shape. The fruits are mostly round or oval, and the color varies with the variety.

Generally, people think that raisins are grapes and grapes are raisins, but they are called differently in different places. In fact, this is not the case. The above definition gives us a glimpse of this. Raisins are actually one of many varieties of grapes, and they are distinguished because of their different varieties. Raisins belong to the Eurasian grape species, which were first introduced to the mainland through Hong Kong. The name of raisins originated from the fact that in Hong Kong, the Eurasian grape species was originally called "bodhi seeds", and in Cantonese it was called "raisins", and then people agreed to call it "raisins".

Raisins and grapes can be distinguished by appearance

The difference between raisins and grapes can be determined from the appearance, skin-flesh separation, taste, etc. Raisins are mostly oval in shape, with large fruit, bright color, storage and transportation resistance, and good taste. Kyoho grapes are soft, juicy, and easy to peel, while raisins have thin skins that are difficult to peel, and have a crisper and harder taste. In addition, raisins have fewer seeds, and many high-quality raisins have no seeds. But from a professional point of view, there is not much difference in nutrition between raisins and grapes. Therefore, in general, raisins are one of the varieties of grapes. Except for some differences in taste, flavor, and shape, the nutrients are basically the same.

There are also differences in price between raisins and grapes.

Generally speaking, raisins are much more expensive than grapes on the market. There are two main reasons for this. First, raisins are a high-quality grape variety, and the technology for planting and grafting is relatively high, so the planting cost is higher than that of ordinary varieties. Second, the high transportation cost makes the price of raisins sometimes double that of grapes.

Therefore, people can choose raisins or grapes according to their taste, and the most fundamental difference between the two is only the difference in variety.
