1. The function of the oil pan

The oil pan is located under the car engine and can be disassembled. It seals the crankcase and is the outer shell of its oil storage tank. Therefore, some people call the oil pan the crankcase. It can prevent impurities from entering the crankcase, collect and store the lubricating oil flowing back from the friction surface of the diesel engine, dissipate some heat, and prevent the lubricating oil from oxidizing.

2. Wet oil sump

The oil pan can be divided into several types. The wet oil pan is a common one. When the engine crankshaft in this oil pan rotates with the crankshaft of the connecting rod big end, it will be immersed in the lubricating oil in the oil pan once every rotation, which can play a significant lubricating role. In addition, the crankshaft will stir up the lubricating oil when running at high speed, and the bearing shell also has a certain lubricating effect. When using this oil pan, there are certain requirements for the amount of lubricating oil inside.

3. Dry sump

Dry oil pans are mostly found in high-end cars. They can lower the center of gravity of the engine and improve handling. This type of oil pan does not need to be added with lubricating oil. The lubricant required for the movement between the engine crankshaft and the connecting rod crankshaft does not need to be completed through the oil pan. It has small holes inside the machine and can replenish the crankshaft in time. This type of oil pan is relatively rare in life, the material is good, and the price is relatively high when replaced.
