Crystal Grape Introduction

Crystal grapes belong to trees and shrubs. The most suitable climate and sunlight for their growth: too little sunlight will make them sour, and too much sunlight will make them too sweet. When they sprout in spring, grapes prefer a temperature of 7 to 12 degrees, and there should be no frost or hail at this time; when the grape branches grow, the temperature is best between 20 and 25 degrees, neither too cold nor too hot, and the sun should be bright; in autumn, when grapes begin to mature, the ideal temperature is 20 to 25 degrees, cool and pleasant, and it must not rain at this time. In places that are too cold, it is difficult for grapevines to survive the winter. The temperature in these areas is not high in summer, and it is difficult for grapes to mature; in places that are too hot, there are many diseases and insect pests. If the winter temperature often exceeds 10 degrees, the grape roots will continue to slowly supply nutrients to the dead branches, and when the grapes sprout in the second year, they will be malnourished.

Main pests and diseases and their control

The main diseases are grape black pox, grape white rot, grape downy mildew and grape anthracnose, etc. In recent years, the gray mold of grapes that damages flower spikes and fruits has tended to become more severe, especially in the Yangtze River Basin.

Grape black pox: harms bunches, stalks, leaves, new shoots and tendrils, causing berries to become smaller, and leaves and tips to become deformed and dry. The disease is severe on European grape varieties, milder on European and American hybrid grape varieties, and basically not on American grape varieties. The pathogen overwinters in the diseased tissue as hyphae and spreads by wind and rain the following year. The disease is more serious in the Yangtze River Basin than in the Huaibei area. Prevention and control methods: Select suitable varieties according to local conditions. Increase the distribution position of branches and vines on the trellis surface, or use trellis cultivation instead. Reduce the chance of disease. Clean the garden thoroughly during the dormant period, remove diseased branches, leaves, and ears, and reduce the source of infection. Spray a mixture of Baume 5-degree lime sulfur and 0.3%-0.5% sodium pentachlorophenol or 10% ammonium sulfate solution during the bud expansion period to eradicate the overwintering pathogens. Spray 200-240 times half-lime Bordeaux liquid before and after flowering to protect flower and fruit spikes; in the later stage, 500 times 50% thiophanate-methyl liquid can be used alternately with Bordeaux liquid. Pinch off the top and remove the side shoots in time to reduce infection of young and tender tissues.
