The Dos and Don'ts of Lychee

Suitable for people

It is edible for the general population, especially for pregnant women, the elderly, people with weak constitutions, and those recovering from illness; it is also suitable for those with anemia, cold stomach, and bad breath.

Not suitable for people

People with yin deficiency and excessive fire should be careful when taking it. People who are suffering from acne, sores, colds, or acute inflammation should not eat lychees, as eating them will aggravate the symptoms, especially children.

People with diabetes should use litchi with caution.

Drivers should be careful when eating lychees. Eating a large amount of lychees and rarely eating meals can easily cause sudden hypoglycemia, which can cause dizziness, thirst, nausea, sweating, stomach pain, palpitations, etc. In severe cases, coma, convulsions, irregular breathing, arrhythmia, etc. may occur, which is called "lychee disease". The human body consumes a lot of calories when driving, and the calories in the human body mainly come from the sugars in food. Studies have found that if drivers eat too many lychees before or while driving, not only will they fail to replenish sugar in time, but they will also increase the risk of traffic accidents. After eating lychees, if you experience symptoms such as hunger, weakness, and dizziness, you should quickly take sugar water or sugar cubes orally, and you will generally recover quickly. Those who show signs of poisoning should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

Fresh lychees should not be eaten on an empty stomach. Fresh lychees have a high sugar content, and eating them on an empty stomach can irritate the gastric mucosa, causing stomach pain and bloating. Moreover, eating too many fresh lychees on an empty stomach can cause "hyperosmotic coma" due to the sudden infiltration of excessive high sugar into the body.

It is not advisable to eat too many lychees.

Why can't eating lychees cause sore throat?

1. Enjoying "Dewdrop Red Lychees" without getting irritated means eating lychees just picked from the tree before dawn when the dew has not yet subsided. It is said that the lychees have absorbed a day's sunshine and have been warm and cool overnight, so their heat has subsided. Each lychee is in the best state of being fragrant, sweet, fresh and crisp. Not only is it delicious, but you will not get irritated no matter how much you eat.

2. Put the fresh lychees picked in a container and sink them in a well or cold spring (water). Eat them overnight to prevent getting angry. They can also dispel dryness and replenish Yin. The great Qing Dynasty poet Qu Dajun wrote in a poem: "The cold spring in the dew well is a hundred feet deep. After picking them, they sink in the well overnight. The sun's essence turns into the cold moonlight. Eating more lychees can replenish Taiyin."

3. Drinking some salt water, herbal tea with Prunella Vulgaris, or winter melon soup, mung bean soup, etc. before eating litchi can prevent getting angry. Or drinking more salt water while eating litchi, or using 20-30 grams of raw land to cook lean meat or pork bone soup, or boil water with candied dates to drink, can prevent litchi disease.

4. Eat salted fish. Take Caobai salted fish and steam it and eat it with rice, or cook it into soup or porridge. It can prevent and treat the sore throat caused by eating lychees.

5. Boil fresh lychee leaves and lychee shells in water and drink it to prevent and treat the sore throat caused by eating lychees.

6. Eating lychees from the east tree can reduce dryness. Lychees are long-day fruit trees that prefer the west sun, and the fruit matures from the west. People who know how to taste lychees pick and eat lychees from the west, because lychees from this direction are particularly sweet. People who are afraid of getting angry pick and eat lychees from the east, because eating lychees that are exposed to the "west slanting heat" can nourish and dry out the body, which is not something everyone can stand. However, lychees that have been exposed to the gentle east sun are nourishing but not dry.

7. When eating lychees, eat the thin white membrane after peeling the fruit shell together with the flesh to avoid getting angry. The membrane is a bit astringent, but when you chew the flesh, it will suddenly become fresh and sweet. After eating lychees, put the lychee stem into the white stem-like part of the flesh and eat it. Eating 2-3 lychees in a row can also effectively prevent getting angry.

In fact, the most important thing is not to eat too much lychees.
