The difference between Ximoli and Ixora

The difference between Ximoli and Ixora

Both Ximoss and Ixora are particularly beautiful ornamental plants in nature. They look somewhat similar, and sometimes people mistake them for the same plant. In fact, if you observe carefully, you will find that there are many differences between Ximoss and Ixora. Next, I will show you the differences between Ximoss and Ixora.

The difference between Ximoli and Ixora

1. Plant species

There is an obvious difference in the plant species to which Ximoss and Ixora ovata belong. Both Ximoss and Ixora ovata belong to the Rubiaceae family, but Ximoss is a species of the genus Ixora in the Rubiaceae family, while Ixora ovata is a species of the genus Rubia in the Rubiaceae family. They are both wild shrubs, but the appearance of the plants is also obviously different.

2. Origin distribution

There are also obvious differences in the distribution of origin between Ximoss and Ixora. Ximoss is a tropical plant that is mainly distributed in tropical America and was later introduced to other parts of the world. Now there are a certain number of Ximoss in the southern gardens and scenic spots in China. Ixora is a unique plant native to southern China and Malaysia. It was introduced to Britain in the 17th century and later spread to Europe. It is now distributed in most parts of the world.

3. Plant morphology

There are also certain differences in plant morphology between Ximoss and Ixora. Although they are both shrubs, Ixora is taller when it grows up, between 0.8 and 2 meters. It has no hair on the surface, but the branches have a certain luster. The leaves are opposite. The flowering period is between May and July each year. The Ximoss plant is relatively tall, with a height of between 2 and 3 meters when it grows up. It has a particularly strong branching ability. The crown of this plant is mostly broad and round, and the flowering period is between May and October each year.

4. Flower Color

There is also a clear difference in flower color between the Ximoss and the Ixora. The color of the Ximoss is relatively single, and its flowering period is relatively long, but its flowers are mostly orange-red, and it rarely blooms flowers of other colors. The Ixora is an ornamental plant with rich colors. Its flowers come in red, orange, yellow, white, and bicolor. Its ornamental value is higher than that of the Ximoss.

That’s all I have to say about the differences between Ximossima and Ixora. In addition to these differences, they also have some differences in their growing environment and cultivation methods. If you are interested, you can learn more about them.
