How to raise yew and what to pay attention to when raising yew

Yew is a very precious plant species. It is a kind of yew plant. Because it can grow red fruits like red beans every autumn, people named it yew. Now the number of yew is getting smaller and smaller, and it has been listed as a key protected object by the state. Yew can be made into bonsai and cultivated indoors, but most people don’t know how to cultivate it, let alone what to pay attention to when cultivating yew. Today, the editor will introduce this knowledge to you.

How to grow yew

1. The yew plant can be propagated by sowing, cutting and transplanting. When people make it into bonsai, they usually choose cutting. When propagating, you can cut a ten-centimeter branch from a 1- to 4-year-old lignified seedling to make a gap, and then directly insert it into a culture medium mixed with perlite, sawdust and sand. After it survives, takes root and sprouts, it can be transplanted into a flowerpot.

2. When transplanting yew into pots, it should be done when the seedlings are about 30 cm tall, and the time for transplanting should be between October and November, or between February and March each year. After transplanting, water it in time and place it in a cool environment to slow down the growth. It will take about ten days before you can move it to the appropriate environment for maintenance.

Precautions for growing yew

1. Light exposure time

When growing yew, special attention should be paid to the lighting time. Because yew is a shade-loving plant, it is suitable for indoor cultivation, but it cannot be without sunlight for a long time, otherwise its leaves will turn yellow or its growth will slow down. It is best to move it to a sunny environment between 9 and 11 am every day, and then move it indoors after the sunlight becomes stronger.

2. Water and fertilizer

The drought resistance of yew is relatively strong. It does not need to be watered frequently during the cultivation period, and water should not be allowed to accumulate in the flowerpot. It is best to water it once every ten days, and water it thoroughly each time. Zhongshan is a fertilizer-loving plant. During the normal cultivation period, it is necessary to fertilize it in time. The fertilizer can be a compound fertilizer with sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In addition, the amount of phosphorus fertilizer should be increased after entering its flowering and fruiting period, so that the yew can produce more red fruits.
