How to grow lavender? Lavender planting methods and techniques

Lavender not only has a beautiful appearance, but also has extremely high medicinal value. It can also be purified and processed into plant essential oils for people to use. Therefore, many people like to grow lavender by themselves. How should we grow lavender? What are the methods and techniques for growing it?

How to grow lavender

1. Planting

The seeds of lavender are very small. When planting, you should raise them as seedlings before transplanting. In China, most areas are suitable for spring sowing, and only a few warm areas in the south can sow and raise seedlings all year round. Before sowing and raising seedlings, you should first level the land, water it well, evenly sow the seeds, cover it with a layer of fine soil, and then cover the top with plastic film to keep it warm.

2. Transplantation

After the lavender seeds germinate and grow into seedlings, you can remove the top plastic film. When the seedlings grow to about ten centimeters, you can transplant them directly into flowerpots. The soil prepared in the flowerpots should be loose, fertile, and have good air permeability and water permeability. After transplanting, water them sufficiently and place them in a cool place to slowly grow for a week.

Lavender planting tips

1. Watering

Lavender is an ornamental plant that likes arid environments. It is not tolerant to moisture. When growing it at home, you must water it sparingly. There should be no accumulation of water in its pot soil or on the ground. It should be well ventilated. When watering lavender, you should also be careful not to water it directly on its leaves to avoid causing diseases. In addition, you should not use tap water directly when watering. You should put it in the sun for 2 to 3 days before using it.

2. Sunlight and fertilizer

Lavender is a plant that likes plenty of sunlight. It must be placed in a sunny place during the cultivation period. However, it must be shaded during the hot summer, otherwise it will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long and easily cause lavender to become diseased. Lavender does not require much fertilizer during the cultivation period. It only needs to be fertilized 1 to 3 times at the intersection of spring and summer each year. The fertilizer can be nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer.
