Medicinal value of hops

(1) Antibacterial effect

Hop extract, lupulone, and humulone can inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria in vitro, but have no inhibitory effect on Gram-negative bacteria. They can also inhibit tuberculosis, but have very weak or no inhibitory effect on pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi and actinomycetes. Lupulone has a stronger inhibitory effect on Gram-positive bacteria and tuberculosis than humulone.

(2) Sedative effect

People abroad use lupulus hops for hysteria, restlessness, and insomnia.

(3) Estrogen-like effects

Most women who collect Humulus lupulus will have their menstruation start 2-3 days after contact with the flowers, and their menstrual cramps will be relieved.

(4) Other functions

Hops are added when brewing beer not only because of the aroma of its volatile oil, but also because it has a preservative effect.

2. Garden value:

The hops we commonly see are mostly produced in Xinjiang, Gansu and other regions of my country, and are suitable for growing in colder regions. Hops climb on plants and grow on stems and leaves for many years, and their green flowers are the most attractive.

3. Edible value:

Hops, as the raw material for beer brewing, plays an indispensable part in this process.

(1) Give beer a refreshing aroma, bitterness and antiseptic properties.

(2) Forming excellent beer foam.

(3) It is beneficial to the clarification of wort.

(4) The strong hop flavor of hops can balance the natural sweetness of the wort and stimulate appetite.
