The following is an introduction to how to propagate jasmine cuttings .

How to propagate jasmine by cuttings

Jasmine is generally propagated by cuttings. This method has the advantages of high propagation coefficient, high survival rate, and convenient management. There are two types of cuttings: hard branch cuttings and soft branch cuttings:

①Hardwood cuttings:

Generally, the survival rate of cuttings is higher at the end of March. It is best to use strong, disease-free, and insect-free 2- to 3-year-old branches as cuttings; cut the selected branches into 10- to 15-cm segments, cut the upper end flat, and cut the lower end into a material shape, and insert them into loose, fertile, and well-drained potting soil. Water frequently (but the amount of water should be small) within one and a half months after cutting to keep the soil moist, which is the key to the survival of cuttings.

② Softwood cuttings:

May to August is the best time. The survival rate of cuttings is very high at this time. You can choose the tender green branches grown in the current year for cuttings. The requirements for the branches are: strong growth and at least 3 pairs of leaves. The method of taking spikes is: cut off the two forked branches together with a small section of old branches, and then separate them from the middle to become two cuttings, and then cut off a pair of leaves at the base of the cuttings. It should be noted that the cuttings must be used as soon as they are cut, and cannot be stored for too long, otherwise, a large amount of water will be lost and the cuttings will be difficult to survive. Within 20 to 30 days after cutting, water the leaves 2 to 3 times a day, and the cuttings will sprout and take root after about a month. The seedlings should be planted in separate pots during the Qingming and Rainy Seasons of the following year.

Jasmine is a favorite decoration for women. In ancient times, women liked to use it to decorate their hair; now, some women like to use thin lead wire to string it into a flower string or flower ball, and put it on their chest or braids. Jasmine not only has high ornamental value, but also has extremely high economic value. In the international market, jasmine oil has a very high price, and the price of each kilogram of oil is equivalent to 1 kilogram of gold. Jasmine can also be used to smoke tea, and both the leaves and roots can be used as medicine.
