Agave cultivation methods and precautions

1. Growth habits of Agave

If you want to grow agave well, you must have a comprehensive understanding of its growth habits. Agave likes to grow in warm, dry and sunny places. It is shade-tolerant and drought-tolerant. In addition, it likes sandy soil with good drainage. It grows fastest when the outside temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. When the temperature is below five degrees, it will die.

2. Agave's soil requirements

When cultivating agave, you should choose soil with good drainage. It is best to mix coarse sand and leaf mold in a ratio of one to one. During its growth period, you should apply fertilizer and water once every two weeks. After entering winter, you should reduce the water supply. In addition, agave will develop leaf spot disease, gray mold and other diseases during the cultivation period. At this time, you need to spray 50% of thiophanate-methyl in time. This drug can be diluted one thousand times and sprayed directly on the leaves.

3. Precautions for cultivating agave

Although the agave plant is highly ornamental and can beautify the environment, the juice in its leaves is poisonous. You must be careful when growing it and not let your skin come into contact with its juice, otherwise you will experience a variety of adverse symptoms such as itchy skin, rashes, and blisters. It is safest to wear gloves when transplanting and pruning.
