Dried persimmon is a traditional Chinese medicine. It is a cake-shaped food made from the fruit of the persimmon plant of the Ebenaceae family. There are two types: white persimmon and black persimmon.

The efficacy and function of persimmon

Moistens the lungs, astringes the intestines, and stops bleeding. Treats vomiting blood, hemoptysis, hematuria, intestinal wind, hemorrhoid fistula, and dysentery.

③ <Compendium of Materia Medica>: "For those who are dry in the sun, it is warming and nourishing. Eating more can remove dryness on the face and remove blood in the abdomen. For those who are dry in the fire, people will feel bitter in the mouth and want to vomit after taking medicine. Eating a little will stop immediately."

④ <Rihuazi Bencao>: "Moisturizes the throat and kills insects."

⑤ <Jiayou Materia Medica>: "It thickens the intestines and stomach, astringes the stomach, strengthens the spleen and stomach qi, and eliminates stagnant blood."

⑥ <Daily Materia Medica>: "It can stop diarrhea, kill small insects, and moisten the throat. It can treat autumn diarrhea in children."

⑦ <Compendium of Materia Medica>: "White persimmon is used to treat gastric nausea, hemoptysis, hematuria, intestinal bleeding, and hemorrhoidal bleeding."

⑧ <Compendium of Materia Medica>: "It stops stomach heat and dry mouth, moistens the heart and lungs, and eliminates phlegm. It also treats stranguria and bloody stool."

Nutritional value of dried persimmon

Persimmons are rich in nutrition, bright in color, soft and juicy, sweet and delicious, and are loved by people of all ages. According to measurements, every 100 grams of persimmons contains more than 15 grams of carbohydrates, 28 grams of sugar, 1.36 grams of protein, 0.2 grams of fat, 19 milligrams of phosphorus, 8 milligrams of iron, 10 milligrams of calcium, 16 milligrams of vitamin C, and a variety of nutrients such as carotene. It can be eaten raw, processed into persimmon cakes and persimmon cakes, and can be used to make wine, vinegar, etc. Persimmons not only have high nutritional value, but their fruits and processed products also have high medicinal value.

Persimmon cake contains mannitol, sucrose, glucose and linalool. Persimmon cake has the effects of lowering blood pressure, stopping bleeding, clearing away heat and moistening the intestines.

The white frost on the dried persimmon is called persimmon frost, which can cure sore throat, mouth sores, lung heat cough, hemoptysis, etc. Grind 10 grams of persimmon frost, 5 grams of mint, and 0.5 grams of borneol together and apply it to treat mouth sores and angular cheilitis.

Persimmons and dried persimmon cakes contain invert sugar, sucrose, malic acid, mannitol and tannin. Both persimmons and dried persimmon cakes can be used as soothing nourishing products. They can stop bleeding and moisten stools, relieve hemorrhoid swelling and pain, stop hemorrhoid bleeding and rectal bleeding, etc.

Medicinal value of dried persimmon

① Treat cough with blood and phlegm: Steam large dried persimmons from Qingzhou over rice, split them, use one each time, and mix with one qian of real indigo. Eat it while lying down, with mint soup. (Danxi Zongyao)

② Treat cough and spitting: burn dried persimmon to ashes, make honey pills, and take with boiling water. (《Southern Yunnan Materia Medica》)

③ Treat vomiting blood, coughing up blood, coughing up blood, and bleeding in urine, intestinal wind and bloody diarrhea, hemorrhoidal heat bleeding, etc.: 1 jin of dried persimmon (from Qingzhou, remove the stems and cores), loquat leaves (brush off the hair), ginkgo flesh (remove the skin), and Rehmannia glutinosa, each 4 liang, ginger peel 1 liang (fry until charred), 5 liang of Stemona, and 6 liang of Asparagus and Ophiopogon (both remove the core). Use 50 bowls of water, boil until 10 bowls, filter out the residue, and boil again in the same way, a total of three times, take a total of 30 bowls of juice, add it all together, put it in a casserole, simmer over low heat until 5 bowls, add 6 liang of refined honey, and store it in a clean porcelain bottle. ④ Treating painful stranguria caused by heat: Take dried persimmon and rush in equal parts. Decoction and drink daily. (Compendium of Materia Medica)

⑤ Treat blood in urine: boil white persimmon and black bean salt flower in water, add ink and drink. ( <Experienced Prescription> )

⑥Treatment of hematuria: dry persimmons, burn to ashes, grind into powder. Take with rice water. ( <Shiyi Dexiao Fang> Persimmon Burning Powder)

⑦ Treat intestinal wind and bleeding: 3 liang of cotton seeds (fried until black, shell removed), 4 liang of oriental cypress leaves (fried until black), 1 liang of Sophora japonica seeds (fried). Side effects of dried persimmon

1. Be careful when eating raw persimmons on an empty stomach or avoid drinking liquor or hot soup after eating persimmons to prevent gastric persimmon stone disease;

2. Persimmons contain tannin, which is easy to combine with iron, thus hindering the body's absorption of iron in food, so anemia patients should eat less;

3. Do not eat persimmons on an empty stomach. It is best to eat persimmons after meals.

4. It is not advisable to drink milk within 1 hour before or after eating persimmons.

Taboos on the use of dried persimmons

1. Persimmons should not be eaten with kelp or seaweed, otherwise it will cause gastrointestinal discomfort;

2. Do not eat with pickled cabbage, black dates, or wine, otherwise it will cause stones;

3. Avoid eating with radish;

4. Persimmons should not be eaten together with goose meat, crabs, sweet potatoes, and eggs, otherwise it will cause abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms. In severe cases, it may cause gastric bleeding and endanger life.

5. Do not consume vinegar before or after eating persimmons.
