Pharmacological effects of black plum:

1. Effect on Ascaris

Wumei has the effect of exciting and stimulating the ascaris to retreat. For example, when Wumei decoction is added to 1% saline and 0.1% sodium bicarbonate solution containing ascaris, the activity of ascaris can be seen to be enhanced. 50g of Wumei decoction was given to dogs through a gastric tube and their bile was collected. Under anaerobic conditions, the ascaris was placed in a rubber tube with a diameter of 0.3-0.5cm, and the rubber tube was placed in a basin of water at 38℃. The collected bile was dripped into the tube from the head of the ascaris. As a result, most of the ascaris retreated from the tube, and some of the ascaris heads retreated from the tube. There are also reports of in vitro tests on 223 kinds of Chinese medicines extracted with hot water to screen drugs with intestinal worm effects, and Wumei was found to be effective.

2. Anti-pathogenic effect

In vitro screening found that black plum has an inhibitory effect on a variety of pathogenic bacteria, such as Shigella dysenteriae, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Bordetella pertussis, and Neisseria meningitidis. It also has an inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which may be related to the citric acid and malic acid it contains. It also has an inhibitory effect on certain pathogenic fungi such as tinea barbae, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum gypseum.

3. Other functions

Black plum has calcium ion antagonism and has strong activity in antagonizing the contraction of guinea pig colon bands caused by potassium ions. Its active ingredient has been isolated as 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural. Oral administration of black plum decoction has a slight contraction effect on the gallbladder. In vitro tests have shown that black plum has an inhibitory effect on human cervical cancer JTC-26 strain, with an inhibition rate of more than 90%. Mouse rosette tests have shown that black plum has an enhancing effect on immune function.
