Key points of pea cultivation How to grow peas

What should we pay attention to when growing peas? Today I will tell you the key points of growing peas:

① Overwintering cultivation:

Overwintering cultivation is the main form of cultivation in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It generally utilizes winter fallow land, especially cotton fields after cotton harvest. Cotton stalks can be used as natural supports, and the purpose of increasing income and maintaining land can be achieved.

For overwintering cultivation, pea seeds are generally sown from late October to mid-November, overwintered in the open field, and harvested in April or May of the following year.

If sowing is too early, the plants will grow too vigorously before winter and will easily freeze to death when the winter cold wave comes; if sowing is too late, the plant roots will not have sufficient development before winter, the vines will sprout late the following spring, and the yield will be low.

②Spring cultivation:

In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, sowing is done in late February to early March and harvesting is done before the high temperature comes. In the Northeast, sowing is done in spring and harvesting is done in summer, usually in April or May. If needed, early sowing can be done by covering with a small shed or mulch. The spring cultivation period is short, with low temperatures in the early stage and high temperatures in the later stage. Therefore, cold-resistant varieties with short growth periods, such as red flower silk peas and sweet snap peas, should be selected and sown as early as possible.

③Autumn cultivation:

For autumn cultivation, early-maturing varieties should be selected, sowed in early September, and harvested before the cold wave arrives in late November. The growing period of autumn cultivation is also short, so you can raise seedlings in a shade shed in summer and cover them with plastic film in winter to extend the growing period.
