Zhang Xichun, a famous modern doctor, recorded a dietary therapy recipe in his "Medical Records of Combining Chinese and Western Medicine", called "Pearl and Jade Two Treasures Porridge". The recipe uses: 60 grams of raw yam, 60 grams of raw coix seed, and 24 grams of persimmon cake. Raw coix seed is like pearls, and raw yam and persimmon cake are like jade, hence the name.

Zhang believes that this recipe has the effect of clearing the lungs and tonifying the spleen, nourishing yin and replenishing qi. If you have loss of appetite, hot flashes in the afternoon, or even bone steaming, night sweats, and a cough that is severe at night due to qi and yin deficiency, you can eat this porridge.

Zhang said: "Yam, white in color, enters the lungs, sweet in taste, enters the spleen, thick liquid benefits the kidneys, can nourish the blood, consolidate qi, calm coughs, strengthen the will and nourish the spirit. It is mild in nature and can be taken regularly. It is better to use it raw and boil the juice to drink. It should not be fried, because it contains a lot of protein. If it is fried, the protein will be burnt and ineffective." Job's tears taste sweet and light, and it is slightly cold in nature. Chinese medicine believes that it can promote water and dampness, strengthen the spleen and eliminate numbness, clear heat and detoxify. The method of making persimmon frost cake is: take mature persimmons, peel off the skin, expose to the sun and dew for about one month, and place it in a mat circle to dry. After one month, it will become persimmon cake. The white powder frost on the outside is persimmon frost. After collecting it, put it into a pot and melt it into a cake. After drying, it becomes persimmon frost cake. Zhang said: "Persimmon frost enters the lungs, and it is sweet, cool and smooth. Its sweetness can benefit the lung qi; its coolness can clear the lung heat; its smoothness can benefit the lung phlegm; its moisture can nourish the lung dryness."
