How to tell if an avocado is ripe? What does a ripe avocado look like?

When people buy avocados, they find that some avocados are hard and not soft at all. They don’t know whether these avocados are ripe or not, so they especially want to know when an avocado is ripe and what a ripe avocado looks like. Next, we will analyze these issues specifically for you.

How to tell if an avocado is ripe

1. Avocado is a tropical fruit. Most of the avocados seen in the domestic market are imported from faraway overseas. In order to facilitate transportation and preservation, avocados are not fully ripe when picked. Therefore, most of the avocados people buy in the market are not fully ripe and feel hard when touched.

2. Avocados are ripe only when they feel soft and the skin turns darker in color. If the avocados people buy in the market feel bright in color and hard when pressed by hand, then such avocados are not ripe. Don't eat them in a hurry after buying them home. They should be stored in a warm environment for 7 to 10 days. The avocado will slowly ripen during the storage process.

What does a ripe avocado look like?

1. When an avocado is ripe, its appearance will not change, but its color will change significantly. Unripe avocados are mostly green in appearance. When they are fully ripe, the color of the skin will deepen a lot and become almost black.

2. When the avocado is ripe, its flesh texture will also change significantly. When it is not fully ripe, the flesh of the avocado is dense and feels hard when pressed, but when it is fully ripe, the flesh becomes loose and feels soft when pressed by hand. However, during the storage process of the avocado, if you find that only a certain part of the avocado becomes soft, you should be alert, because it is likely that the avocado has deteriorated.

3. If people do not eat the avocado in time after the color of the skin deepens and the flesh becomes soft, the flesh will oxidize. If stored for a few more days, two ripe avocados will rot and deteriorate. Dark spots will begin to appear on the surface of the avocado. If not handled in time, it will emit an odor and some sticky liquid will flow out. At this time, the avocado will produce a large amount of harmful substances in the process of decay and must not be eaten.
