How to peel water chestnuts? Commonly used water chestnut peeling tips

Water chestnut is an aquatic plant, also known as ground pear. It can be eaten as both a fruit and a vegetable. It is nutritious and has a unique taste. However, water chestnuts have a very hard skin that needs to be removed before eating. This poses a big problem for those who want to eat water chestnuts. How should its skin be removed? I will share a few tips for peeling water chestnuts with you so that you can easily remove the water chestnut skin.

1. Salt water soaking method

When peeling water chestnuts, you can wash it with the skin in clean water, and then steam it in a steamer over high heat. I will take it out immediately and put it directly into cold water, add an appropriate amount of table salt, and soak it for about half an hour. At this time, its flesh and skin will naturally separate. You can remove the skin with force and get the white flesh inside.

2. Peel with a knife

Normally, water chestnuts can be peeled directly with a peeler. When peeling, you should first flatten the top and bottom with a knife, and then slowly peel off the hard skin around it with a knife. After getting the white flesh, wash it with clean water and you can eat it directly.

3. Soak in hydrochloric acid

If you want to easily remove the skin of water chestnuts, you can boil it in salt water for five minutes after the water boils. After taking it out, put it in clean water and rub it with both hands. After a few minutes, add 2% hydrochloric acid and mix well. Soak it for about half an hour. Change to clean water again, and rub the surface of the water chestnut with your hands continuously, and the skin will fall off naturally.

4. Machine peeling

If you want to eat a lot of water chestnuts, you can also buy a special peeling machine, put the water chestnuts in from the entrance, turn on the power and let it work, and what comes out is the water chestnut pulp with the peel completely removed. In addition, there are many vendors in the market who will peel the water chestnuts for free when selling them. They use professional peeling machines.
