What diseases can hawthorn treat? What are the medical effects of hawthorn?

Everyone knows that hawthorn is a delicious fruit, but do you know the functions and effects of hawthorn ? Let me introduce it to you.

Hawthorn as a medicinal herb

There are records of hawthorn in many ancient Chinese medical books. For example, the New Compendium of Materia Medica says that hawthorn "can be boiled and taken to stop dysentery, can be used to wash the head and body, and can treat sores and itching." The Illustrated Materia Medica says that hawthorn can "treat dysentery and abdominal pain." The Daily Materia Medica says that hawthorn can "dissolve food accumulation, relieve qi stagnation, strengthen the stomach and widen the diaphragm, and eliminate blood stasis and blood clots." The Compendium of Materia Medica says that hawthorn can "dissolve food, eliminate internal accumulation, lumps, phlegm, acid reflux, and blood stasis and pain." Because hawthorn contains hawthorn acid and esterase in its main ingredients, in recent years, people have also used hawthorn to treat hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia and other diseases.

Hawthorn is also known as red fruit, monkey hawthorn, and mountain red. It is slightly warm in nature, sour and sweet in taste, and has the effects of digesting food, removing accumulation, promoting blood circulation and dispersing blood stasis. Hawthorn is very nutritious. According to research, every 100 grams of hawthorn contains 89 mg of vitamin C, 0.82 mg of carotene, and 85 mg of calcium. In addition, hawthorn also contains nutrients such as iron, vitamin B2, and protein. The calcium content of hawthorn ranks first among fruits, the amount of vitamin C is second only to jujube, kiwi and sea buckthorn, the amount of carotene is second only to apricots, and the amount of vitamin B2 is equal to that of bananas.
