Do figs have flowers?

Uyghur Old Fruit Farmer, Khan and Figs

Figs have a long history of cultivation in Atushi. There are many legends about figs among the people, among which the most touching is the beautiful legend of why figs have fruit without flowers: a long time ago, there lived a Uyghur fruit farmer named Kurban on the banks of the Boguzi River in the south of Atushi. He devoted his life to his orchard. The golden fruit he cultivated was known as a holy fruit, which not only quenched hunger and thirst, but also cured many diseases. The sweetness of this beautiful fruit brought infinite benefits to the villagers, and its floral fragrance and sweetness soon spread to the Khan's palace. The greedy Khan issued an imperial decree, asking Kurban to transplant the fruit trees to his garden, otherwise, the trees would be cut down, the orchard would be destroyed, and even Kurban's head would be moved.

With an extremely resentful mood, Kurban cut young branches from the fruit trees under the hazy moonlight and gave them to nearby villagers for cultivation. The next day, he transplanted the bare fruit trees to the Khan's garden.

In the spring of the following year, not a single fruit tree in the Khan's garden survived, while the trees in the orchards of the Uyghur villagers on the Boguzi River were lush and full of life. The intoxicating fragrance of the fruit trees rushed into the Khan's garden with the wind, disturbing the greedy Khan and making him restless and furious. The Khan ordered Kurban to be arrested and tortured, and sent out all the guards to cut down all the fruit trees in the farmers' houses. Following the scent of the flowers, the guards broke into the orchards one by one and cut down all the fruit trees in full bloom. Old Kurban, with bruises all over his body, replanted the fruit trees with the villagers and took good care of them. The fruit trees sprouted new branches again.

The next spring, when the fruit trees were in bloom, old man Kurban and his fellow villagers were worried that the strong fragrance of the flowers would bring disaster again. Facing the buds about to bloom, the villagers prayed silently in their hearts, hoping that it would be great if the flowers would bear fruit instead of blooming.

Figs have no flowers

This spring, the fruit trees did not bloom, but the villagers also smiled, as they found that dense young fruits the size of buttons had grown on the thick leaves. From then on, people called this fruit without flowers figs.
