How to store cherries

If you grow cherries at home or buy too many cherries at one time, the preservation of cherries becomes a problem. How can you preserve cherries for a longer time? Let me tell you this knowledge.

Basic knowledge of cherry preservation

Don't eat too much cherries, about 10 a day is best

Cherry is a fruit with high nutritional value. However, according to traditional Chinese medicine, cherries are very hot food, and eating too much can easily cause internal heat. Generally, it is appropriate to eat about 10 at a time.

Of course, this has a lot to do with individual constitution. Some people do not feel uncomfortable even if they eat cherries by the pound, while others may experience digestive symptoms such as bloating and abdominal discomfort. In addition, cherry kernels contain cyanogenic glycosides, which produce hydrocyanic acid after hydrolysis, which is highly toxic.

How to store cherries

Regarding the storage of cherries, Zhao Shiliang said that cherries can usually be stored for a maximum of 5-7 days, and will rot if stored for more than a week. It is recommended not to use plastic bags to pack cherries because they are not breathable. It is best to use paper boxes to store them.

It is best to store cherries in the refrigerator because cherries are afraid of heat. The suitable temperature is 2℃-5℃, so as to maintain the fresh and tender taste of cherries.

The fruit should be stored with the stems, otherwise it will rot easily.

Eat fresh cherries in season, and there are many ways to eat seasonal cherries when they are not in season. Buy more now, not only can you eat them raw, but you can also use some to make wine, jam, canned food or freeze them. In this way, you can enjoy the delicious cherries of summer even in the cold winter.

How to choose cherries?

There are three varieties of cherries on the market now. The red one is called "Hongdeng"; the purple one is called "Samito"; the yellow one with a little red is called "Hongyan". These three varieties have different tastes. "Hongyan" is sweet and sour, with soft and juicy flesh; "Hongdeng" is slightly sourer than "Hongyan" and has a slightly thicker flesh; "Samito" has a crisper taste.

When choosing, first of all, you should choose according to your own preferences. Secondly, look at the luster of the cherry. No matter what variety, the one with shiny skin is the best. Finally, look at the stem. The stem should be green. If it is black, it means that the cherry is not very fresh. Zhao Shiliang, director of Beijing Sijiqing Fruit Forestry Institute, emphasized: "There should be no wrinkles on the surface of the skin, because this means that the cherry is dehydrated and does not have enough water."
