The four most famous pomelo varieties in the world are Wendan, Pingshan, Shatian and Siamese. There are also Qiangdele, Guanxi, Longdu Zaoxiang, Beibei and Dongshi Zao, a local early-maturing variety.

Shatian pomelo is one of the traditional famous pomelo in my country, with a cultivation history of more than 200 years. It is the variety with the largest planting area. Qiangdele pomelo, also known as Qiangdele red pomelo, is a fine variety introduced from the United States by the Citrus Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the 1980s. After being promoted after multi-point trials and observations, it has good production performance and is the best red pomelo variety currently promoted. The juice content is higher than the original red flesh series promoted. The main advantages are early fruiting and high yield, excellent quality, generally acidic, and good quality after storage.

Longdu Zaoxiang pomelo was selected by Zigong, Sichuan, and included in the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" key project promotion variety of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Citrus Research Institute. It is a virus-free descendant of Guanxi honey pomelo, with excellent quality, early fruiting, and high productivity. It is a treasure among pomelo and won the Gold Cup Award in the national pomelo evaluation in 1998.

Pomelo

Shatian pomelo (Golden Pomelo) is native to Shatian, Rong County, Guangxi. The tree is strong, with 1-2 years of thick and upright branches. The fruit is pear-shaped or gourd-shaped, with a single fruit weight of 500-1500 grams. The flesh is crisp and tender, white or shrimp-colored, with a strong and sweet flavor and high quality. The edible rate of the fruit is 40-60%, the juice content is 30-40%, and the total acid content per 100 ml is 0.3-0.6 grams, and vitamin C is 100-200 mg. The fruit matures from early October to mid-November. There are many types of Shatian pomelo. Currently, the two types of soft branches and hard branches are mostly cultivated. The soft branch type has smaller fruits, pear-shaped, more juice, and better quality. This type matures early and has high and stable yields. The hard branch type has larger fruits, gourd-shaped, less juice, and high yields, but it is more likely to have alternate years.

Yuhuan Pomelo

Originated from Yuhuan County, Zhejiang Province. It has strong growth potential, large fruit, single fruit weight of 1250~2000 grams, and the largest can reach more than 3500 grams. The flesh is crisp and tender, and has fragrance. It has no seeds or few seeds, and has excellent quality. The edible rate is 60~65%, and 100 ml of juice contains 0.8~1.0 grams of acid and 50~60 mg of vitamin C. The fruit matures from mid-October to early November. Wendan pomelo has two types: oblate conical and high conical. The former is high-yielding, but the fruit cracks more. The latter has a small central column and almost no fruit cracking. This variety has strong growth potential, good yield, large fruit, bright color, fragrance, no seeds or few seeds, and excellent quality. Guanxi honey pomelo, also known as "Pinghe Pao", is native to Guanxi, Pinghe County, Fujian Province. The tree is vigorous, the fruit is large, the single fruit weight is 500-2000 grams, and the maximum fruit weight can reach 5000 grams. The flesh is tender and juicy, sweet and sour, slag-free, aromatic, high-quality, and seedless. The edible rate is 60-70%, and 100 ml of juice contains 0.6-1.0 grams of total acid and 50-60 mg of vitamin C. The fruit matures from mid-October to late October. This variety has vigorous growth, strong adaptability, easy cultivation, early fruiting, excellent quality, and high and stable yields. The disadvantage is that it is not resistant to long-term storage, and it is easy to dry up or the juice cells are overly softened after long-term storage.

Jincun Pomelo

Also known as Caijia pomelo. Produced in Xiaba Village, Tankou Township, Nankang City, Jiangxi Province. The tree is strong, the fruit is pear-shaped, and the single fruit weighs about 690 grams. The flesh is white, sweet, crisp, and of high quality. The fruit matures in late October. This variety has strong adaptability, young trees start to bear fruit early, and the yield is high and stable. Generally, the plant produces 600~800 fruits, and the highest plant produces 860. The fruit is beautiful, sweet, crisp, and has a good flavor and a slight fragrance. But the disadvantage is that there are many seeds. Yongjia Zaoxiang pomelo is an early-maturing variety selected in Yongjia County, Zhejiang Province. The tree is strong, the fruit is pear-shaped, and the single fruit weighs 800~1200 grams. The fruit is crisp, tender, juicy, sweet and sour, and has a fresh fragrance. The quality is excellent, and the fruit matures in late September to early October.

Longhui Early Ripening Seedless Pomelo

This is a fruit selected by the Sweet Pomelo Research Group of Jiangxi Agricultural University and the Nankang Agricultural Bureau. The tree is strong, the single fruit weighs 1520 grams, and the maximum fruit weighs 2500 grams. The flesh is juicy, sweet with a slight sour taste, good flavor, strong fragrance, seedless, and excellent quality. The fruit matures in mid-September.

Zhaipo Pomelo

Originated from Nankang City, Jiangxi Province, it is a pomelo tree planted by Zhai Po in the past, hence the name Zhai Po Pomelo. It has a long history of cultivation, dating back more than 1,500 years. The "Nankang County Chronicles" records that "Zhai Po Pomelo's skin is fragrant, sweet and light, and has an excellent flavor." It was listed as a tribute in the Qing Dynasty, and was once sold well inside and outside the province and in Hong Kong and Macao, and has long enjoyed a high reputation. Won the gold medal at the first China Agricultural Expo. It is a local fine variety of farmers. The tree is strong, the fruit is pear-shaped, weighing 650 grams to 1,300 grams, with a strong aroma, crisp and tender flesh, sweet taste, and excellent flavor. The edible rate of the fruit is 59%, and the total acid content of each 100 ml of juice is 0.33 grams, vitamin C is 127 to 154 mg, and the solid acid ratio is 42 to 48. The fruit matures in late October to early November. This variety has strong adaptability, high yield, bright color, delicious taste, crisp and tender flesh, strong fragrance, excellent quality, and good storage and transportation

Jiangba Pomelo

Originated from Jiangba Village, Tankou Township, Nankang City, Jiangxi Province, it is a local fine variety of farmers. The tree is moderately vigorous, the fruit is conical, the single fruit weighs 500~700 grams, the flesh is light green, the juice is medium, the taste is strong and sweet, there is fragrance, and the quality is excellent. The edible rate is 50%, and the total acid content per 100 ml of juice is 0.44 grams, high in sugar and low in acid. However, there are more seeds, an average of 210 seeds. The fruit matures in mid-to-late September, and it is an early-maturing variety.

Pingshan Pomelo

Originated from Hua'an County, Fujian Province, it is one of the famous pomelo in my country. It has strong growth potential, the fruit is obovate, the single fruit weighs about 1200 grams, the flesh is crisp and the quality is excellent. The fruit matures in early to mid-September. This variety matures early and has excellent quality. The fruit is resistant to storage and transportation, and can be kept until the Spring Festival without changing its flavor.

Jinsha Pomelo

The tree is strong, the fruit is oval, tender, juicy, sweet and sour, and has a strong flavor. The fruit matures in late September to early October. This variety is relatively high-yielding, cold-resistant, has a strong flavor, good quality, and matures early. It is a good fruit for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
