Types of Fruit

The so-called hot fruits in traditional Chinese medicine refer to fruits with high calories and sugar content, such as jujube, hawthorn, cherry, pomegranate, lychee, green fruit, durian, papaya, tangerine, mandarin orange, ginkgo, etc., which are all warm fruits.

Cool fruits: watermelon, melon, pear, tangerine, orange, banana, mulberry, persimmon, water chestnut, etc.

Neutral fruits: grapes, apples, peaches, apricots, pineapples, longans, sugar canes, black plums, etc. These are basically common and available in supermarkets.

The weather can be cold or hot, and so can fruits. If your body is not suitable for eating cold or hot fruits, improper consumption or excessive consumption will have serious negative effects on your body. So, how do you classify fruits into cold and hot, and how should you, a fruit lover, choose?

Cold fruits relieve heat and dryness. Most fruits in summer are cold, such as pears and various melons. Generally speaking, people with a hot constitution have a strong metabolism in summer, the sympathetic nerves are dominant, they sweat a lot, often have a red face, dry mouth, irritability, and constipation, and they especially like to eat cold things in summer. Therefore, people with a hot constitution can eat more cold fruits appropriately.

However, cold fruits should not be eaten too much, otherwise it will be harmful to the body. For example, pears are sweet, have the effects of stopping diarrhea, laxative, and aiding digestion, and eating them often can make the skin white and tender. However, because they are rich in sugars and potassium salts, eating too much will damage the health of the heart and kidneys. Patients with coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, nephritis and diabetes should not eat too much, while people with insufficient qi and mental fatigue can eat more as nourishing fruits. Fruits such as pears, citrus, and grapefruit have the effects of relieving coughs, reducing phlegm, moistening the lungs, and aiding digestion, but eating too much can easily cause gastrointestinal disorders, and can also cause toothaches, hemorrhoids, and even cause yellow spots on the skin. Therefore, people with stomach problems and cold stomachs should eat less. People with qi deficiency and spleen deficiency should be particularly cautious when choosing cold fruits such as watermelon, cantaloupe, mango, pear and banana, and it is best not to eat them. Qi deficiency generally refers to insufficient qi. These people are generally pale, thin, and can't eat; while spleen deficiency means that the digestive system is relatively poor and the intestinal peristalsis is slow. Therefore, the more cold fruits you eat, the more you will reduce gastrointestinal motility and weaken muscles. Eating too much will cause bloating due to indigestion. Therefore, the elderly and children with poor gastrointestinal function are not suitable for eating cold fruits. If you really want to eat them, you can eat a little after lunch or before dinner, but not too much. Summer cold fruits: cantaloupe, watermelon, pear, banana, kiwi, mango, persimmon, water chestnut, melon, grapefruit, etc.

Warm fruits can replenish the cold. Although there are more cold fruits in summer, among the many fruits, lychee, longan, apricot, etc. are warm and are quite popular. Especially for people with cold constitution, they have weak qi and spleen, low basal metabolic rate, less heat generated in the body, and their limbs are cold even in summer. Comparatively speaking, the complexion of this group of people is whiter than that of ordinary people, and they are rarely thirsty and do not like to touch cold things, including entering air-conditioned rooms. Therefore, eating more warm fruits is undoubtedly a good way to replenish the cold for these people. However, it is easy for ordinary people to get angry if they eat too many warm fruits on hot days. For example, lychee contains hypoglycemic ingredients, and eating more will cause low sugar reaction. For people with hot constitution, because they are energetic, have difficulty falling asleep at night, and have a high metabolic rate, they should not eat warm fruits. In addition, children who are having a fever or an organ that is inflamed should also try to avoid eating them. Summer warm fruits: lychee, peach, longan, cherry, coconut, durian, apricot, etc.
