How to propagate purslane trees How to propagate purslane trees

Purslane is a wild herb that people are familiar with, but not many people know about the purslane tree. Although their names are similar, they are not the same. The purslane tree is a succulent plant similar to purslane. It is evergreen and beautiful in shape. It has high ornamental value and is especially suitable for indoor cultivation. It is the most popular potted plant on the market. The purslane tree not only has high ornamental value and strong vitality, but also has a variety of different reproduction methods.

How to Propagate Purslane Trees

1. Purslane can be propagated by cuttings, and the survival rate of this method is particularly high. Portulaca oleracea can be propagated by cuttings in spring, summer and autumn, but the temperature is most suitable between April and September. It will take root very quickly after cuttings, and the survival rate will be particularly high.

2. When propagating purslane trees by cuttings, you should choose stems that are strong and have short internodes to make cuttings. The length of the cuttings should be between 10 and 15 cm. After cutting it from the branch, you should slightly trim the bottom.

3. Put coarse sand and leaf mold in the flowerpot, water it enough, and then insert the prepared cuttings directly into the flowerpot, remove all the leaves on the top, and keep the soil moist. After 20 days, the cuttings in the flowerpot will take root. Don't rush to transplant it at this time. Wait until it grows 2 to 3 leaves, and then transplant it to a suitable environment.

How to propagate the purslane tree

In addition to propagation through cuttings, purslane can also be propagated through sowing and grafting. It produces seeds after flowering every autumn. As long as these seeds are collected, they can be directly sown and propagated in the spring of the following year. When propagating by grafting, the rainy season should be avoided, and then strong branches should be selected as scions, which should be directly grafted onto the prepared rootstock, tied tightly, and then placed in a cool place for maintenance. It will survive after two or three weeks.
