How to grow orchids? Tips and precautions for growing orchids

Orchid is a green plant with a particularly high ornamental value. Many people want to grow it at home, but people don’t know much about its cultivation methods, and they don’t know what to pay attention to when growing orchids. Today, the editor will specifically introduce these issues to you so that you can easily understand how to grow orchids.

How to grow orchids

1. Choose the right soil

The choice of soil for orchid cultivation is very important. Orchids like fertile soil. You can choose leaf mold or forest humus soil mainly composed of humus. You can also go to the market to buy special orchid mud, add appropriate amount of vermiculite and perlite, and mix them into loose, breathable and water-permeable nutrient soil.

2. Temperature and light

When growing orchids, mildness and light are two very important conditions. Usually, orchids like to grow in a warm environment. They grow fastest when the outside temperature is around 20 degrees. When the outside temperature drops below 10 degrees, they will stop growing. In addition, orchids are shade-loving plants. They should be placed in a cool environment in spring, summer and autumn. Especially in summer, they must not be placed on a sunny south-facing windowsill, otherwise their leaves will be burned by strong light.

Precautions for growing orchids

1. Pruning

When growing orchids, you must pay attention to pruning, especially when old and yellow leaves appear on the orchid, you need to cut them off as soon as possible. Only in this way can you promote the growth of new leaves, improve permeability, and reduce the occurrence of diseases. However, you must also pay special attention when pruning orchids. The scissors used for pruning must be disinfected in advance to prevent infection.

2. Change the pot in time

When growing orchids, you should also pay attention to changing pots in time. Orchids grow slowly at the beginning, but grow faster in the later stage and have a well-developed root system. They must be repotted once a year. When repotting, you can put some tile particles at the bottom of the pot, and then put in the culture soil. After planting the orchid in the pot, you must water it enough and compact the nutrient soil in the pot.
