How to grow cockscomb How to grow cockscomb

Cockscomb is an ornamental plant that people are very familiar with. It can be planted in gardens or flower beds for people to appreciate. In fact, this plant can also be made into potted plants and cultivated at home. It’s just that people don’t know about its cultivation methods and don’t know how to grow cockscomb well. Today, the editor will introduce this issue specifically to you.

Cockscomb must have a comprehensive understanding of its growth habits. This plant likes hot and dry climates and is afraid of stagnant water. Usually, it can only grow well in a sunny environment in fertile sandy soil. Cockscomb is mainly propagated by sowing. You can choose to sow in the open-air seedbed in spring from March to April. When the seedlings grow to three or four leaves, they can be directly transplanted into flower pots.

Cockscomb cultivation method

1. Reasonable watering

Although cockscomb is a plant that likes arid environments, it also needs to be watered moderately during normal cultivation, especially during its peak growth season, when it consumes a lot of water. It should be watered every 3 to 4 days, and in the hot summer, it should also be replenished with water in time. Only in this way can it maintain vigorous growth.

2. Lighting conditions

Cockscomb is an ornamental plant that likes sufficient light. It likes a warm environment and usually receives at least six hours of light a day. If it is placed in a cool environment, its inflorescence will become smaller and its ornamental value will be significantly reduced. In addition, during the cultivation of cockscomb, attention should be paid to temperature regulation. Only when it is placed in a warm environment of 18 to 28 degrees can it grow healthily.

3. Pruning and fertilizing

Cockscomb needs necessary pruning during the cultivation period, especially for those dwarf varieties. After planting, it is necessary to pinch the tops in time to promote its branching and growth. If you want to use the cultivated cockscomb as cut flowers, you should pinch the tops when it grows to 20 to 30 cm. Cockscomb does not require much fertilizer during the cultivation period, but it needs to be fully fertilized before planting, and compound fertilizer should be used 1 to 2 times before entering the flowering period.
