Osmanthus has a fragrance and there are many varieties. Osmanthus is a light-loving tree species, slightly tolerant to shade, prefers warm and humid climates, is intolerant to severe cold and drought, prefers loose and fertile slightly acidic soil, and requires to grow in sandy loam rich in humus and well-drained, preferably acidic soil with a pH value of 5.5 to 6.5. Alkaline soil is not suitable for planting, and it is also intolerant to waterlogging. On dry and barren soil, it grows slowly, the leaves turn yellow, and it is not easy to bloom. What are the methods for growing potted osmanthus? Let's share some information about potted osmanthus with you. Cultivation method of potted osmanthusPotted plant management 1). Watering: The principle of not watering the osmanthus pot soil is to follow the principle of not watering it unless it is dry, and watering it thoroughly when you do. However, you should spray clean water on the leaves once a day, evenly spraying all the branches and leaves until water drops begin to drip down, so as to keep the leaves moist and clean the dust adsorbed on the leaves. After the Qingming Festival, move the osmanthus to the open air and water it thoroughly. In summer, water it in the morning and evening, and in winter, water it around noon, so that the water temperature is close to the soil temperature to avoid sudden cold or hot. Be careful not to accumulate water. In winter, just keep the pot soil moist. 2). Fertilization: Osmanthus is mainly for viewing flowers, so sufficient fertilizer should be provided. When the shoots are pulled out, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied 1-2 times to promote the growth of branches and leaves; before the differentiation of flower buds and flowering, phosphorus fertilizer should be applied mainly. After the osmanthus is moved to the open air in spring, it is watered with decomposed thin bean cakes, sesame paste, fish water, etc. once every half month. From the end of May to before flowering, it is watered once a week. The concentration of fertilizer and water gradually increases. From July to August, 0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution is applied every half month. Apply a light fertilizer solution after flowering to avoid autumn branches. In winter, more organic fertilizers and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied. Generally, 25-30 grams of decomposed and deodorized cake fertilizer and 10-15 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate are applied to the roots every 15-20 days. After adding 2-3 catties of clean water, they are sprinkled and applied, and 1000 times nucleotides are sprayed on the leaves every 10-15 days. 600 times high-efficiency biological phosphorus and potassium fertilizer mixture, spray all branches and leaves evenly until water starts to drip. Before fertilizing, the potting soil should be slightly dry, and it is advisable to loosen the soil first to facilitate fertilizer absorption. Water should be poured once the next day. If compost or manure is used, it must be fully decomposed before use (the sign is that the fertilizer juice turns black). For chemical fertilizers, superphosphate concentration should not exceed 2%, and urea concentration is 0.5-1.0%. 3). Reversing the pot: Potted osmanthus should be reversing the pot and changing the soil every 2-3 years. Cut off some old and dead roots, and use bamboo sticks to remove some old soil. Before potting, put a layer of river sand or vermiculite at the bottom of the pot to facilitate ventilation and drainage, and place decomposed cake fertilizer at the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. The filling soil must be compacted, which can promote the luxuriant flowers and leaves of osmanthus. The soil ratio for potted hanging flowers is not very strict. It can usually be made of garden soil, compost and river sand, each accounting for 1/3. If the acidity is too high, some lime powder or plant ash can be added; if the alkalinity is too heavy, some aluminum sulfate or ferrous sulfate can be added. In spring, after the potted osmanthus is planted, it should be watered thoroughly, and then moved to a shaded place for about 10 days to make it "adapt to the pot". During the adaptation period, no fertilizer can be applied. Watering and fertilization can be applied only after the growth is restored and new leaves grow. The texture of the flower pot is best made of purple clay or glazed clay, and the color is better in purple or ochre, which can contrast sharply with the colors of the flowers and leaves and increase its ornamental effect. 4). Pruning and shaping: The best osmanthus shapes are curved, oblique or elegant. The tree is oblique, with dense branches and leaves, simple and natural, and most appreciative. When it blooms, the fragrance is overflowing and refreshing. The shaping of osmanthus generally adopts a combination of climbing and pruning. The main trunk can be climbed and tied into a curved or oblique trunk. The shaping and pruning of osmanthus should be carried out after autumn. For plants that grow very high but have empty branches at the bottom and poor tree shape, the entire top branches can be cut off at 2/3 or 3/4. For plants that are "top-heavy", the overly dense branches on the top should be cut off, leaving only the smaller branches at the bottom. For plants with overly dense branches, thinning should be carried out. Pruning should also be carried out after flowering to cut off the long branches, dead branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, and dense and thin branches. 5). Overwintering: The room temperature should be kept at 0-5℃ and the relative humidity should be kept at 50-80%. In winter, the cold room should have good lighting, especially in early spring before the buds begin to sprout, and sufficient sunlight is required. In the spring of the following year, after the Grain Rain in North China (around the Waking of Insects in the Huanghuai River Basin), the potted osmanthus should be taken out of the room. After taking it out of the room, first place it in a sunny place outdoors that is sheltered from the wind, and then spread it out in rows to gradually adapt it to the external environment. 6). Disease and pest control: Common diseases of osmanthus include leaf spot, sooty mold, algae spot, root rot, iron deficiency, etc., which should be controlled according to the disease situation. Leaf spot, sooty mold and algae spot can be controlled by spraying 0.5 Bordeaux mixture or 5% carbendazim 500-1000 times solution; for the prevention and control of root rot, attention should be paid to keeping the soil loose and breathable, and not stagnant water; if the root rot is caused by fungi, 200-300 times solution of mancozeb can be used to irrigate the roots. Common insect pests of osmanthus include sawflies, whiteflies, mites, white scale, yellow thorn moth, etc. Sawflies, whiteflies, and mites can be sprayed with 1500-3000 times solution of 40% dimethoate. Except for artificial brushing, white scale can be sprayed with 1000 times solution of 40% oxydemeton-methyl or 500 times solution of 40% fenitrothion when it is the first and second generation nymphs. |
