Management of flowering and fruiting period of spring tomatoes

Management of flowering and fruiting period of spring tomatoes

Management of spring tomatoes is actually the most important when they are blooming. So how can we better manage them at this time?

Strengthen fertilizer management during tomato flowering and fruiting period

Tomatoes are crops that require a lot of fertilizers. They need more fertilizers during the entire growth period, but tomatoes are more sensitive to human contact. If topdressing is done frequently, human contact will also increase, which can easily lead to various diseases. Therefore, topdressing should be done on the basis of sufficient base fertilizer. The principle of topdressing is: apply thinly before fruit setting, apply heavily after fruit setting, and apply topdressing in batches. When a spike of flowers blooms 3 to 4 flowers, you can apply Tianrun No. 1 or Tianrun No. 2 thinly.

During the flowering and fruiting period, when the fruits of the first ear develop to a diameter of about 2 cm and the second to third inflorescences have entered the fruit setting period, heavy fertilizer should be applied.

Especially before flowering, during the flowering period and fruiting period, spraying the leaves with 600-800 times of Tianrun No. 1 or Tianrun No. 2 can preserve flowers and fruits, and significantly increase the fruit setting rate. During the fruit expansion period, spraying the leaves with 600-800 times of Tianrun No. 1 or Tianrun No. 2 can not only promote fruit expansion, enhance coloring, make the fruit skin fresh and shiny, but also have a good anti-cracking effect.

Good water management during the flowering and fruiting period of tomatoes

During the flowering and fruiting period, the plant needs more water for growth, so pay attention to watering to ensure an even supply of water. Generally speaking, from the seedling stage to the first ear of fruit setting, water less appropriately, generally no irrigation, to prevent the plant from growing too tall and causing flowers and fruits to fall.

Plant adjustment: For non-self-capping tomatoes, single-stalk pruning or double-stalk pruning can be used. Single-stalk pruning is used, and each plant should have about 7 bunches of fruit. From the first to the fourth bunch of fruit, 2 to 3 fruits are left per bunch; after the fifth bunch of fruit, 3 to 4 fruits are left per bunch, and the excess ones are removed. Wipe off the side buds and thin out the flowers and fruits in time to keep the fruit size uniform.

Pay attention to pest control

The main diseases are early blight, leaf mold, gray mold, and canker. In the early stage of the disease, Bordeaux mixture of 1:2:200 can be used for prevention and control. In the later stage, 70% thiophanate-methyl 800-1000 times solution, 75% chlorothalonil 600 times solution or scyproconazole spray can be used for prevention and control. The main insect pests are cotton bollworm, cabbage worm, aphids, etc., which harm leaves and fruits. Tianrun Insecticide No. 1 or Tianrun Insecticide No. 2 has a good control effect on cotton bollworm and cabbage worm, and Sudeli or Chonglanke also have good control effects.

Timely harvesting: Under low temperature conditions, the fruit can mature 45 to 50 days after flowering. If the temperature is high, it can mature about 40 days after flowering. The general harvesting standard is "a little red", that is, harvesting when the top of the fruit turns slightly red. Harvest when the fruit turns red in the early stage and place it in a cool place for sale. Harvest when the fruit turns slightly red in the middle stage. When cleaning the garden in the late stage, harvest the large and small green and white fruits and place them in a place with a temperature of 10℃~15℃ for ripening.
