How to grow peas on the balcony

My son likes to eat peas very much. I plan to plant them on the balcony, but how to plant peas on the balcony?

Pea seedlings

① Choose seeds that are large and free of pests and diseases for sowing. You can use salt water to select seeds. Dissolve 40 grams of salt in 100 milliliters of water, then put the pea seeds in, discard the ones floating on the water, and sterilize the remaining seeds with hot water as described above before sowing.

② Suitable temperature for germination is 18~22℃, and it can still germinate if it is not lower than 5℃. Usually direct seeding is done, 2~3 seeds are sown in each hole after watering thoroughly, and the soil is covered about 3 cm, and then a thin layer of plant ash can be sprinkled on the soil surface. Disposable plastic cups can also be used to raise seedlings and then transplanted.

③The suitable temperature for growth in the seedling stage is 14~22℃, and it can tolerate low temperatures of 4~5℃; it is slightly drought-resistant, and does not need watering as long as the leaves do not wilt in the morning and evening. Apply a thin layer of well-rotted organic fertilizer once about 10 days after germination.

④ Two weeks after germination, when 1 to 2 pairs of true leaves grow, transplant and plant, 3 to 5 plants per pot, and apply enough decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer in the soil.

Pea-Daily Management

① When the plant height is 30 to 40 cm, insert several bamboo poles into the potting soil to guide the pea seedlings to climb, making sure the stems and leaves are evenly distributed.

② It likes coolness and cannot tolerate high temperature and frost. During the flowering and fruiting period, 15-20℃ is most conducive to flowering and pod development; it cannot tolerate drought. It cannot tolerate waterlogging and requires the soil to be kept moist without stagnant water.

③ Fertilization should be mainly based on basal fertilizer, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied, and nitrogen fertilizer is basically unnecessary. Starting from the vigorous growth period of branches and leaves, apply decomposed organic fertilizer once every 10 days or so.

Peas - Harvesting

Generally, you can harvest once every 2 to 3 days. For varieties of edible beans, harvest when the seeds in the pods are fully grown and swollen, while the pods are still green. If you are saving seeds or harvesting dry beans, you can wait until the pods are dry and yellow before picking them.
