Uses of Peas

Uses of Peas

When peas are harvested, one is for storage, the other is for what? In other words, what is the use of peas?

Pea Introduction:

Peas, also known as Bi beans, snow peas, winter beans, wheat beans, cold beans, etc., have two varieties in the cultivated species: white flower peas, also known as vegetable peas; purple flower peas, also known as red flower peas or grain peas. In addition, there are a few purple and white flower hybrids, and the seeds are smaller than the above two types. Among these types of peas, purple flower peas have a high fresh grass yield, strong resistance to adversity, and a slightly lower sowing rate, which is more conducive to green manure cultivation.

Peas nutritional value:

Peas are rich in nutrition. The seeds contain 20% to 24% protein, more than 50% carbohydrates, fat and multiple vitamins. Every 100 grams of seeds contain 0.04mg of carotene, 1.02mg of vitamin B1 and 0.12mg of vitamin B2. Pea seeds are very soft when boiled, and can be used to make soups and rice, or as raw materials for various food industries. The sprouted peas are also rich in vitamin E. Tender beans and fresh beans can be canned. Fresh stems, pods and green beans contain 25% to 30% sugar, multiple vitamins and minerals, and are high-quality and delicious vegetables. Tender stems contain 21.2% digestible protein and 0.52% nitrogen, 0.11% phosphorus and 0.25% potassium. The pods contain 7.5% protein, which is an excellent feed and green manure for livestock. Peas are sweet and flat in nature, and have the effects of harmonizing the middle and lower qi, promoting urination and relieving sores.

Peas Uses:

Young and tender pea seedlings can also be turned into the soil as green manure to improve the soil, and are an excellent crop in crop rotation.

Peas can be sown in autumn or spring, and are particularly suitable for use as green manure in dry land, and are also suitable for sowing in rice fields after tillage and land preparation. Peas have a short growing period, making them easy to rotate or interplant in a variety of farming systems.

Cultivated peas are divided into two categories: grain peas and vegetable peas. Grain peas are also called purple flower peas, field peas or hard pod peas. They are tall plants with strong stress resistance and high yield but poor quality. They are mainly used as food or feed. Vegetable peas are also called soft pod peas. They have white flowers and white seed coats, and some have yellow and green seed coats. The seeds contain more sugar and are of good quality. Green pods and fresh beans are used as vegetables or canned food. However, the plants are tender and have weak stress resistance. They are mostly grown in the south.

Peas have a history of more than a thousand years of cultivation in my country and are one of the main winter crops in the southern region. Under suitable conditions, each acre of peas can fix 5.15 kg of free nitrogen from the atmosphere each year, which is equivalent to 25 kg of ammonium sulfate fertilizer, making it suitable for rotation cultivation with other crops.
