How to distinguish good and bad mangosteen

How to distinguish good and bad mangosteen

Some people like to buy mangosteens, but when they eat them at home, they find that the mangosteens are either spoiled or old, and not tasty at all. They are very depressed about this. How can you distinguish the quality of mangosteens when buying them? In fact, there are certain methods to distinguish the quality of mangosteens. I will write them down later. Friends who like to eat mangosteens can learn about them. After understanding them, you will never buy poor quality mangosteens again.

1. Look at the appearance of mangosteen

When you buy mangosteen, you can tell the quality by its appearance. Fresh mangosteens are mostly dark purple in appearance and have no spots. If you see some yellow spots on the surface of mangosteens, you should not buy them, because the flesh inside will also turn yellow where there are yellow spots, and it will not be edible after opening.

2. According to the feel of mangosteen

When buying mangosteen, you can also tell its quality by the feel of the mangosteen. A fresh mangosteen of good quality will be softer when squeezed by hand, but it has a certain degree of elasticity. If it does not come back when pressed, or cannot be pressed at all, it means that the mangosteen is not fresh, either it is rotten inside or it has been stored for too long and the flesh inside has dried up.

3. Look at the petals of mangosteen

When you buy mangosteen, the bigger is not necessarily better. You should look at how many lobes it has. Generally, mangosteen with six to eight lobes is of the best quality and has only one pit. If it is too big, there will be a large pit in each lobe of mangosteen. To see how many petals a mangosteen has, you can look at how many lines on its bottom. Generally, there are as many lobes as there are lines on the surface.
