Morphological characteristics of giant tiger shrimp

The body of the giant shrimp is covered with black-brown and khaki horizontal stripes. The upper beak of the frontal horn has 7 to 8 teeth, and the lower beak has 2 to 3 teeth. The lateral groove of the frontal horn is quite deep, extending to the back of the eye spine, but the lateral ridge of the frontal horn is low and blunt, and the central groove of the posterior ridge of the frontal horn is obvious. There is a clear liver ridge, but no frontal gastric ridge.

Economic value of tiger prawn

The tiger prawn is the most common species in the world. Two crops can be raised along the southern coast of my country. The shrimp grows fast, has strong adaptability, and has a miscellaneous diet. It has a low requirement for the protein content of bait (only about 35%) and can tolerate a wide range of salinity and temperature. The salinity range is 0.2-70‰, and the optimum salinity is 10-20‰; the optimum temperature is 25-32℃, and death will occur if it is higher than 38℃ or lower than 14℃. It is also highly tolerant to low oxygen and can tolerate long periods of dryness and exposure, so it is easy to transport and sell. The shrimp is the largest among the shrimps, with the largest individual found being 33 cm long and weighing 500-600 grams. Mature shrimps are generally 22.5-32 cm long and weigh 137-211 grams. They are precious shrimps that are popular among consumers. The nutritional value is similar to that of other major shrimps.

Nine-segmented shrimp

Nine-segment shrimp is common in areas south of Fujian, and is one of the seafoods that Guangdong people love to eat. Its true form is tiger shrimp. According to legend, nine-segment shrimp is very seasonal. After it comes into contact with water, it will spit out secretions, causing itself to die, so that people who like to taste fresh food cannot get involved. It is quite heroic and brave, "It is better to die in glory than to live in disgrace." Therefore, shrimp farmers must change the water frequently to wash away the secretions to prevent it from "committing suicide." The nine-segment shrimp that cannot "commit suicide" will eventually die from "homicide" when it is grandly listed in August in midsummer. Those who kill it are mostly Guangdong people who advocate "food is the first priority for the people." In Guangdong, the most common is brown tiger shrimp, which is called ghost shrimp by Guangdong people.
