Difference between tangerines and sweet oranges

Mandarin orange (scientific name: Citrus reticulata) or tangerine is a kind of fruit of the genus Citrus in the Rutaceae family. The fruit has a thick outer skin and contains pulp, which is composed of juice bubbles and seeds. Mandarin oranges are brightly colored, sweet and sour, and are a common delicious fruit in autumn and winter.

Orange (English name: orange) is a citrus fruit of the Rutaceae family, an evergreen tree. It is the most representative citrus fruit tree. It includes two basic species: sweet orange and sour orange. The branches have thorns. The leaves are oblong, with long petioles and well-developed wing leaves. The flowers are solitary, clustered or in racemes, white and recurved. The seeds are oblong or oval, with ridges on the surface.

1. Orange: Orange is the mature fruit of many kinds of oranges such as Fuku orange or Zhu orange of Rutaceae. There are many varieties, including Hachibu orange, Jinqian orange, sweet orange, sour orange, Miyagawa orange, Niitsu orange, Owari orange, Wenzhou orange, Sichuan orange, etc. The fruit is small, often oblate, with orange-red, vermilion or orange-yellow skin. The peel is thin and loose, with a thin spongy layer, tough texture, easy to peel, and 7 to 11 capsules. It tastes sweet or sour, and the seeds are pointed and not resistant to storage.

2. Orange: refers to a group of plants under the Rutaceae, Citrus subfamily, Citrus tribe, and Citrus subfamily. Varieties include Jincheng and Navel orange. The most common ones are mainly sweet oranges. "Zhongyu No. 7 Sweet Orange" is a new sweet orange variety selected and bred by the Citrus Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is seedless, high-quality, high-yield, storable, and can be eaten fresh or processed (juice making). The fruit is round or oblong, with a smooth skin.
