Winter jujube (also known as Yanlaihong, Apple jujube, Bingtang jujube, Lubei winter jujube, Zhanhua winter jujube, Huanghua winter jujube, etc.) is a high-quality late-maturing fresh food variety in the northern part of Shandong. Winter jujube bears fruit early, and can bear fruit in the same year of grafting. It matures in early to mid-October. The fruit is nearly round, with a smooth and clean surface, and the fruit shape resembles a small apple. The longitudinal diameter is 2.7-2.9cm, the horizontal diameter is 2.5-2.9cm, the average single weight is 14 grams, and the maximum fruit weight is 45 grams.

Winter jujube belongs to the family Rhamnaceae, genus Ziziphus. It is a late-maturing and excellent fresh-eating variety of thornless jujube. It is mainly distributed in Hebei, Shandong and other places. Winter jujube has large, nearly round fruit, with a vertical and horizontal diameter of 2.9-3.2 cm, thin skin, small core, juicy, tender and crispy flesh, strong sweetness, slightly sour, round or oblate fruit, ochre red, average single fruit weight 17.5g, maximum single fruit weight 35g, jujube core is spindle-shaped. Fresh jujube contains 34% sugar, 0.47% acid, and 303mg/100g vitamin C.

The winter jujube tree has moderate vigor and medium branching ability. It bears fruit 2-3 years after planting and in the second year after high grafting. It has a stable yield. The fruit growth period is 125-130 days. It can be harvested from late September (white ripening period) to mid-October (full ripening period).

This variety has strong adaptability, relatively high and stable yield, late fruit maturity, and excellent quality, making it an excellent late-maturing fresh food variety.

Winter jujube is delicious when eaten fresh, with crispy skin and tender flesh, and is of excellent quality. It is currently a high-end fresh food variety among northern deciduous fruit trees. When ripe, it falls to the ground and cracks open. It is juicy and has no residue, and is sweet and fragrant. The soluble solids content is 35-38%, the flesh is thick and the core is small, and the edible rate is 96.1%.

Winter dates are extremely nutritious

It contains 19 essential amino acids such as aspartic acid, threonine, and serine, with a total content of 0.985 mg/100 g; 1.65% protein; 2.3% dietary fiber, a total of 17.%; 0.26% total flavonoids; 0.87 mg/100 g niacin; 1.1 mg/kg carotene; 0.1 mg/kg vitamin B1; 2.2 mg/kg vitamin B2; and the vitamin C content is particularly rich, reaching 352 mg/100 g, which is 70 times the vitamin C content of apples, 100 times that of pears, and 20 times that of golden thread jujubes. It is known as a "living vitamin pill". The biggest feature of winter jujube is its extremely high vitamin C content, with a vitamin C content of 380 to 600 mg per 100 g of pulp (the vitamin C supplement can generally provide 60 mg of vitamin C), which is 70 times that of apples and 16 times that of citrus fruits. Even hawthorn, which was previously considered to be rich in vitamin C, is inferior.
