Life Tips

Carrots and white radishes are popular vegetables among citizens and have many benefits for the human body, but experts from the Pollution-Free Vegetable Monitoring Center would like to warn citizens: the two should not be eaten together.

Cooking carrots and white radishes together as a cold dish or stew will reduce the nutritional value of one of the radishes. In addition, this cooking method will also induce a "civil war" because white radishes contain a high content of vitamin C, while carrots contain an enzyme that fights against vitamin C and can destroy the vitamin C in white radishes. When the two meet, the vitamin C in white radishes is severely lost, and its nutritional value is naturally greatly reduced.

In addition, if white radish wants to better play its therapeutic effect of aiding digestion and preventing cancer, it is best to eat it raw. Carrots are just the opposite. Carrots are rich in carotene, which can be converted into vitamin A in the human body. Vitamin A and carotene can promote the production of photosensitive pigments in the eye, prevent night blindness, enhance the color discrimination ability of the eyes, and improve eye fatigue and dry eyes. However, when carrots are eaten raw, more than 70% of the carotene cannot be absorbed.

Experts recommend two most scientific ways to eat carrots: first, cut the carrots into pieces, season them, and stew them with meat. It is best to use a pressure cooker, which can reduce the contact between carrots and air and keep the carotene rate as high as 97%. Second, cut the carrots into slices, stir-fry them with enough cooking oil and then eat them. This way, the absorption rate of carotene can reach 90%.

Experts warn that although white radish has a good digestive effect, it is cold in nature, so people with weak spleen and stomach, chronic gastritis, and gastric ulcers should not eat it in large quantities. For female friends, carrots should be consumed in moderation, otherwise it may cause menstrual disorders and infertility. This is because long-term excessive intake of carotene will affect the synthesis of progesterone in the ovaries, and some may even cause symptoms such as amenorrhea.
