Scientists have discovered a hormone component in soybeans that can relieve women's menopausal symptoms without the side effects of current estrogen therapy.

Obstetricians and gynecologists from the Federal University of São Paulo in Brazil conducted a six-month follow-up test on 80 menopausal women and found that 85% of the subjects had improved menopausal symptoms after taking the plant hormone "isoflavin". In addition, 75% of the women also had lower cholesterol levels in their bodies after starting to take isoflavone.

What excites the researchers is that all the symptoms that estrogen can treat can also be treated by isoflavin; although the efficacy of isoflavin is slightly worse than that of estrogen, it does not have the side effects of estrogen.

When women enter menopause, their hormone production begins to decline, which can lead to insomnia, depression, bone loss, and burning sensations from time to time, affecting their quality of life. Generally speaking, 90% to 95% of women can improve their menopausal symptoms after taking estrogen, but the risk of side effects such as uterine or breast cancer will also increase.

The researchers replaced traditional estrogen with isoflavone and had the women taking the test take it. As a result, none of the women experienced symptoms such as breast or endometrial swelling. The researchers therefore concluded that soy products do not have the medical risks of estrogen side effects.

Researchers say that soybeans are one of the most complete and multifunctional foods known to mankind; in addition to their high nutritional value, soybeans' high protein content is the best substance for treating or preventing diseases such as cancer and osteoporosis.
