How to graft walnut trees? When and how to graft walnut trees

When people plant walnut trees on a large scale, they need to be grafted. Only in this way can the yield and quality of walnuts be improved. But when is the right time to graft walnut trees? What is the grafting method? If you want to plant walnut trees on a large scale, you can read the following detailed introduction to walnut grafting knowledge.

Walnut tree grafting time

1. Walnut trees are best grafted between early April and early May each year. However, the walnut trees grafted at this time need to be mainly between. However, the survival rate of this grafting method is not high, and the method is not easy to master, so it is not suitable for large-scale promotion.

2. Walnut trees are also suitable for grafting between mid-May and late June each year. This is when bud grafting is used. During this period, the temperature and humidity are particularly suitable for the growth of walnut trees, and the rootstock and scion are in a vigorous growth period. People graft them at this time, which makes it easy for the tissue to heal. In addition, after grafting, the buds sprout very quickly and the lignification will be significantly improved, allowing the walnut trees to safely spend the winter.

How to graft walnut trees

1. When grafting a walnut tree, you must prepare healthy scions for it. Under normal circumstances, you can choose healthy two-year-old branches for the scion. Cut the bottom into a wedge shape, leave two to three buds on the scion, and then put it in warm sand for maintenance. You can take it out directly before grafting.

2. When grafting walnut trees, the rootstock must be processed well. You can split a hole on the rootstock, and then insert the prepared scion into it. It must be bandaged in time after it is done. When bandaging, you must first seal it with wax, and then wrap the interface with plastic strips. When bandaging, all the interfaces must be wrapped tightly, and the wound and white areas cannot be exposed outside. After bandaging, the plastic strips must be tied tightly. This can effectively improve the survival rate of the walnut tree after grafting.

3. Walnut trees need to be drained in time after grafting. Draining here means releasing the liquid produced in the grafted part. When draining, the plastic strips need to be removed and the plastic strips need to be re-wrapped after the accumulated liquid is released. Most walnut trees need to be drained two to three times after grafting.
