Club fish

The body of the stick flower fish is stout. The front of the nostril is sunken. The lips are thick, and the wrinkles of the upper lip are not obvious; the side lobes of the lower lip are smooth. There are 35 to 39 lateral line scales. During the reproductive period, the male fish has pearl stars on the pectoral fins and head; each fin is elongated.

Morphological characteristics

The dorsal fin and the tail fin have patterns composed of small black spots.

The back is dark yellow-brown, gradually fading to the sides, the abdomen is light yellow or milky white, and there are 5 large black spots on the back from the dorsal fin to the base of the tail. There are 7-8 large black spots on the sides of the body. In addition, there are many large and small black spots scattered irregularly from head to tail on the entire back. There are several relatively neat horizontal lines composed of small black spots on the dorsal fin, pectoral fin and caudal fin. The body color turns darker during the reproductive period, which is more obvious in male fish.

Goby

Goby is a general term for all species of goby in the family Gobyidae. It is a kind of small carnivorous fish. Each of them has a name that suits their characteristics, such as "dwarf goby" and "common goby". It is the largest family of fish, with more than 2,100 known species. They look short, only a few centimeters long, with two dorsal fins. Most of them live in tropical seawater, and some live in rivers, streams and lakes. Appearance characteristics

Gobies are characterized by their elongated bodies and small size, most of which are shorter than 10 cm. They have two dorsal fins. Some species, such as the European crystal goby, are transparent.

The most prominent morphological feature of gobies is that their pelvic fins are fused into a sucker. The function of this sucker is similar to that of the dorsal fin sucker of remoras and the pelvic fin sucker of lobster fish, but it is an anatomically very different structure and is therefore the result of convergent evolution.

The smallest vertebrates in the world are the gobies of the genera Trimmatom and Pandaka, which are less than 1 cm when fully grown, and a goby distributed in the Philippines is only 13 mm long. There are also some larger gobies, such as the species of the pseudo-goby Gobioides, which can be more than 30 cm long, but this is a rare exception.
