Famous varieties include Liangxiang chestnut, produced in Liangxiang, Fangshan, Beijing, with small fruit, about 5 grams, sweet taste, and mature in mid-October; Qianxi Mingli, also known as "red skin" and "red hair", produced in Qianxi and Xinglong, Hebei, medium-large fruit, 7-9.5 grams, reddish brown skin, bright, sweet taste, mature in mid-September; Laiyang Hongguang chestnut, produced in Zhuangtou, Laiyang, Shandong, medium-large fruit, dark brown skin, shiny, good quality, sweet taste, mature in early September; there is also Castanea henryi, also known as pearl chestnut, distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and various places in the south of the Yangtze River, with an egg-shaped nut hidden in the shell head, and the taste is the same as chestnut.

Chestnuts not only contain a lot of starch, but also contain protein, vitamins and other signature nutrients, and are known as the "king of dried fruits". Chestnuts can replace grains, and are known as "hardcore crops" and "woody grains" together with dates and persimmons. They are a cheap, nutritious tonic and a good medicine for nourishment.
