Common methods to prevent food spoilage

Food often goes bad in our daily life, which makes people very distressed. How can we prevent food from going bad? In fact, there are many ways to prevent food from going bad in life. I will share the most commonly used methods with you in a while. After understanding them, you will know how to prevent food from going bad.

1. Low temperature storage

Low temperature preservation is a common method in life to prevent food from spoiling. It can be divided into refrigeration and freezing. The low temperature environment can reduce or stop the proliferation rate of microorganisms in food. At the same time, low temperature can also weaken the process of all chemical reactions in food, so putting food in a low temperature environment can prevent them from spoiling.

2. High temperature sterilization

High-temperature sterilization is also a common method to prevent food from spoiling. Its preservation principle is that under high temperature, the enzymes, lipids and cell membranes in the microorganisms will be destroyed, its protoplasm and structure will become uneven, the protein will coagulate, and all metabolic reactions in the cells will stop. Therefore, high-temperature sterilization can prevent food from spoiling.

3. Dehydration and drying

Dehydration and drying are also the main methods commonly used to prevent food from spoiling. This preservation method is to reduce the moisture in the food to below the water required for microbial reproduction, inhibiting the activity of microorganisms in the food. After the microorganisms in the food lose their activity, the shelf life of the food will be extended and spoilage will rarely occur. In addition, pickling and smoking are also the main methods commonly used to prevent food from spoiling.
