Autumn is often the best time to plant cowpeas. So how to manage them properly at this time? Here are some management techniques for cowpea fields in autumn: 1. Water in timeThe temperature is high in the early autumn, and the evaporation is large. Therefore, special attention should be paid to irrigation to promote the growth of cowpea. The seedling stage is at high temperature, so watering should be frequent, once every 3 to 5 days to cool down and keep the soil moist, especially watering in the morning and evening for better results. Flowering and pod-setting period: water appropriately, usually once every 5 to 7 days. After the pods are set and begin to elongate, watering can be increased, once every 3 to 5 days, to keep the field soil moist. If there is continuous rainy weather, the furrows should be cleaned in time to drain the water and dry the field after the rain stops. 2. Reasonable topdressingOn the basis of formula basal fertilizer application, we should "apply fertilizer early, apply fertilizer frequently, apply less fertilizer frequently, apply more fertilizer at the beginning and less fertilizer at the end". In the seedling stage, apply compound fertilizer 30-40 kg or urea 10 kg, and biofertilizer enzyme bacteria granular fertilizer 100 kg. When cowpeas are stretching vines, insert the racks, and the racks should be firmly inserted to prevent them from being blown down by the wind and affecting the growth of cowpeas. During the flowering and pod-setting period, topdress twice, each time applying 15-20 kg of urea and 1 billion/g of microbial soil inoculant, 30-40 g mixed with a small amount of water to water the roots, or 125 ml of Huifengman mixed with 60 kg of water to spray on the leaves. After harvesting, combine watering and topdressing as appropriate. 3. Intertillage and weedingIn the early autumn, the temperature is high and the rainfall is abundant, which is conducive to the growth and spread of diseases, insects and weeds, especially the fast growth of weeds. If weeds are not removed in time, it is easy to cause grass shortage, causing weeds to compete with cowpeas for water and fertilizer, affecting the normal growth, flowering and pod formation of cowpeas. At the same time, the overgrowth of weeds will provide a place for pests and a source of disease transmission, which seriously threatens cowpea production, so inter-row cultivation and weeding must be carried out. Generally, weeding is required 2-3 times in the seedling stage, and weeding is required 1-2 times after the trellis is set up to keep the field clean and reduce the chance of pests and diseases. The first tillage should be shallow, light and uniform; the second tillage should be slightly deeper, and deep hoeing should be done between holes and rows; the third tillage should be done along the rows to form half-high ridges, which is conducive to good field management. 4. HarvestCowpeas grow fast in autumn. When they grow close to their standard length, they should be harvested and put on the market in time. The cowpeas harvested at this time will be supplied around National Day, with high prices and good benefits. |
