Romanesco Broccoli

Speaking of Roman broccoli , I believe that most people have never heard of it. In fact, Roman broccoli is a kind of cauliflower and is also edible.

Roman broccoli varieties

Roman broccoli, commonly known as green pagoda, is an edible broccoli that was discovered in Italy in the 16th century. It is a biennial herbaceous plant of the Brassica genus of the Cruciferae family. The surface of the Roman broccoli head is composed of many spiral florets, which are arranged in pairs with the center of the head as the symmetry axis. Its magic lies in its regular and unique appearance, and it has become a famous geometric model. It grows in a specific exponential spiral structure, and all parts are similar bodies, which is similar to the simple mathematical principles contained in irregular fractals in traditional geometry. Therefore, it has attracted countless mathematicians and physicists to study it. China introduced it for cultivation in 1991 by Huazhong Agricultural University . It looks a bit like broccoli, green and juicy, and tastes not much different from the cauliflower we usually eat.

Features

The plant grows vigorously, with a spread of 60 cm, a height of 70 cm, and a shortened stem height of 30 cm. The leaves are narrow and long, with about 20 leaves. The flower ball grows at the top of the shortened stem. The flower ball is green-yellow, conical, and resembling a pagoda. Each flower ball is made up of more than 200 conical small flower balls arranged closely in a spiral shape. The flower ball is compact and beautiful. The diameter is 20-25 cm, the height is 17-21 cm, and a single flower ball weighs about 1 kg. Individual small flower balls can also be harvested in stages. The flower ball is of good quality, with a delicate texture, and the vitamin C content is 40% higher than that of ordinary cauliflower. It is cold-resistant and disease-resistant.

Cultivation points

Sowing in mid- to late July, raising seedlings in shade, transplanting after 15 days, high seedling success rate. Planting in late August, planting density is 3200 plants per mu. Timely fertilizer and water management, harvesting can begin in late January, generally yielding about 3000 kg per mu.

Suitable range

Suitable for cultivation in the Yangtze River Basin.

Eating Roman broccoli

The way it is eaten and prepared is the same as ordinary cauliflower. It can be fried or eaten cold, and its taste and texture are the same as ordinary cauliflower.

Romanesco is an edible vegetable, no different from broccoli and cauliflower in the same family. Both are rich in vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin C. They also contain protein, fat, sugar, multiple vitamins and calcium, phosphorus and iron minerals.

According to data, the vitamin C content of cauliflower per 100g is 4 times that of Chinese cabbage, 8 times that of tomatoes, 15 times that of celery, and 20 times that of apples. Vitamin C can not only increase the ability of drying and detoxification, increase human immunity, but also is a weight loss and beauty food that can fight cancer.

It has attracted countless mathematicians and physicists to study it because of its regular and strict mathematical model.
