Chrysanthemum

Introduction to Chrysanthemum

Hangbai chrysanthemum, also known as Xiaobaiju and Xiaotanghuang, is produced in Tongxiang, Zhejiang. Hangbai chrysanthemum has high medicinal value. From ancient times to the present, Chinese medicine has always listed Hangbai chrysanthemum as one of the good medicines. Do you know what are the effects and functions of Hangbai chrysanthemum? If you are not sure, please read the following introduction about Hangbai chrysanthemum with me.

The efficacy and function of chrysanthemum

effect:

Chrysanthemum has the effects of nourishing the liver and improving eyesight, clearing the heart, nourishing the kidneys, strengthening the spleen and stomach, moistening the throat, promoting salivation, and regulating blood lipids.

effect:

1. It has a sedative effect on the central nervous system;

2. It has antipyretic effect;

3. Enhance capillary resistance and dilate coronary arteries;

4. It has antibacterial effect. Chrysanthemum decoction and water extract have inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella dysenteriae, Proteus, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Vibrio cholerae, beta-hemolytic Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, human tuberculosis and influenza virus (PR3 strain).

Dispel wind-heat, soothe the liver and improve eyesight, clear away heat and detoxify.

Yellow chrysanthemum has a stronger effect of dispersing and purging, while white chrysanthemum can also nourish the liver. It is often used to treat exogenous wind-heat or early stage of febrile disease, as well as hyperactivity of liver yang, liver-fire eye disease, and heat-toxic sores and swelling.

Chrysanthemum is a commonly used Chinese herbal medicine in clinical Chinese medicine, and my country has a history of more than 300 years of cultivation. It has the effects of dispersing wind and heat, calming the liver and improving eyesight, and is used to treat wind-heat colds, headaches and dizziness, red and swollen eyes, and blurred vision. "Compendium of Materia Medica" records: "Chrysanthemum tastes sweet and bitter, has a mild nature, is affected by the four elements, is full of frost and dew, obtains the essence of gold and water, and benefits the lungs and kidneys"; "Compendium of Materia Medica" records: "It can treat all kinds of wind and dizziness, improve eyesight and dispel wind, search for liver qi, and benefit blood and moisturize the face." Modern pharmacological studies have shown that chrysanthemum has multiple pharmacological effects such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, vasodilation, lipid-lowering, anti-tumor, and lead removal.

Hangzhou chrysanthemum is mainly produced in Tongxiang, Zhejiang and other places. The quality of these places is also the best. Its petals are large and wide, white or yellow-white, with a yellow center, a fresh fragrance, and a sweet and slightly bitter taste. It is especially suitable for making tea at home. Hangzhou white chrysanthemum is fleshy and has a mellow and sweet taste. It is especially suitable for making tea. Taking it with wolfberry can enhance the effect of nourishing the liver and improving eyesight. It is a good eye protection recipe for office workers who are with computers all day. Among Hangzhou chrysanthemums, fetal chrysanthemum is the best, that is, the buds of Hangzhou chrysanthemum that have not been fully developed, with a strong aroma and a sweet taste. It should be noted that although fetal chrysanthemum is the most popular among Hangzhou chrysanthemums, there are serious problems such as fake origins, excessive pesticide residues, excessive bacteria, impurities, many fragments, and sulfur fumigation in the market, which can easily cause discomfort when drinking. Studies have shown that the sensory quality of fetal chrysanthemum (picked during the bud stage) is better than that of chrysanthemum (picked during the whole chrysanthemum stage), and the content of its main active ingredients is also significantly higher than that of chrysanthemum. Hangzhou white chrysanthemum is more suitable for picking and drinking in the bud stage (fetal chrysanthemum), and the popularity of fetal chrysanthemum in the drinking chrysanthemum market has its scientific basis.

Cardiovascular effects

Relevant research from Zhejiang Medical University has shown that chrysanthemum preparations can significantly increase the coronary blood flow of isolated rabbit hearts and improve the ischemic ST segment depression in the electrocardiogram after central brain stimulation, thereby showing that the animals' tolerance to hypoxia has been improved. Chrysanthemum can be used clinically as a blood pressure-lowering drug, as it can dilate the coronary arteries of the heart, increase arterial blood flow, and improve the tolerance of myocardial cells to hypoxia.

Effects on cholesterol

Relevant data record that the decoction of chrysanthemum can inhibit the activity of methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase in rat liver microsomes, activate certain cholesterol metabolizing enzymes, and thus accelerate the metabolism of cholesterol. In the research of Hu Chun and other scholars, it was also found that certain extracts of chrysanthemum can significantly improve the increase of cholesterol in rats in the experiment, keep the level of cholesterol in serum basically unchanged, increase the concentration of protective high-density lipoprotein, and reduce the concentration of low-density lipoprotein that is harmful to the body. When the body ingests too much cholesterol, certain components in chrysanthemum can accelerate the metabolism of cholesterol and inhibit the increase of triglycerides, ultimately preventing or treating clinical diseases that assist in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.

Anti-pathogen

Chrysanthemum has a significant inhibitory effect on certain Gram-positive bacteria and human tuberculosis. Some foreign studies have also shown that chrysanthemum has a certain killing and inhibitory ability against simple herpes virus, measles virus and polio virus. In addition, another important characteristic of chrysanthemum is the anti-AIDS effect found in the study. Research reports in some literature magazines show that some chrysanthemums can inhibit the replication activity of some transcriptases and HLV. The isolated acacetin-7-0-BDO pyranosyl galactose is a new active ingredient against HIV, and its toxicity to the human body is relatively low, so it can be applied to anti-AIDS related research.

Antibacterial effect

Relevant data show that chrysanthemum has a complete inhibitory effect on in vitro bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Vibrio cholerae, and has a certain inhibitory effect on human Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Anti-aging effects

The effect of chrysanthemum is mainly reflected in the fact that certain components of chrysanthemum can significantly enhance the activity of brain cells, prevent cerebrovascular accidents or lesions, delay brain function decline, protect superoxide anion free radicals in cell biomembranes, and achieve anti-aging purposes. In addition, it can also help dilate brain blood vessels, increase blood supply to the brain, and play a good protective role on the brain.

Antioxidant effect: The flavonoids contained in chrysanthemum can scavenge free radicals and superoxide anions, exerting antioxidant ability.

Side effects and contraindications of chrysanthemum

Precautions

1. Drink immediately after brewing, and do not leave it overnight. Chrysanthemum tea is rich in flavonoids, which have excellent antioxidant properties. They can help the human body remove free radicals, lower cholesterol, inhibit blood pressure and other health benefits. However, flavonoids are very unstable and can be easily oxidized, causing the tea to lose its original yellow color and turn green, and its health benefits will also decrease. Therefore, chrysanthemum tea should be brewed and drunk immediately, and it is best not to leave it for a long time.

2. Don't add rock sugar. People with hot body should not add rock sugar. For people with cold body and weak body, adding some rock sugar to chrysanthemum tea can slightly reduce the coldness and be more suitable for their constitution. For people with hot body and strong body, adding rock sugar will weaken the heat-clearing effect of chrysanthemum tea. It is recommended to use dried fruit instead of rock sugar.

3. Learn to match them scientifically. No matter which type of chrysanthemum, it is cold in nature. People with yang deficiency (usually afraid of cold) and spleen and stomach deficiency (stomach pain and stomach discomfort when eating cold things) are recommended to use autumn mulberry, wolfberry, dried fruit, etc. to make chrysanthemum tea, which has a better effect of clearing the liver and improving eyesight. It can be used with wolfberry to nourish the liver and kidney, and mulberry leaves can prevent and treat colds. Chrysanthemum is sweet and has a nourishing effect on the liver and kidneys. When it is paired with wolfberry, which nourishes the liver and kidneys, the effect is enhanced. Mulberry leaves and chrysanthemums can both dispel wind-heat, clear the liver and improve eyesight. Using them together can relieve the fever, headache and other symptoms of the early stage of wind-heat cold.

4. Avoid eating with incompatible ingredients. Cooking chrysanthemum with chicken or pork will cause poisoning, and it should not be eaten with celery.

How to brew chrysanthemum

1. Take about 3-4 chrysanthemums and put them into a 400ml glass;

2. Add boiling water (100 degrees) about 70% to 80% full, cover with lid, soak for 3-5 minutes, and drink while hot;

3. Drink until 1/3 of the tea soup is left, then add boiling water to brew it, so that the concentration of the tea soup is more even;

4. You can add sugar or honey, or mix it with any kind of tea you like, such as French rose, wolfberry, etc.

Element

Chrysanthemum is a plant of the Asteraceae family. Its flowers contain 0.13% volatile oil, chrysanthemum glycoside, adenine, choline, stachydrine and trace amounts of vitamin A-like substances, vitamin B, amino acids and sophora japonica.

Medicinal value of chrysanthemum

The petals of Hangbai chrysanthemum are as white as jade, and the stamens are as yellow as pure gold. They have high medicinal value and the effect of prolonging life. The "Book of Nourishing Agriculture" states: "Chamomile is sweet and warm in nature, and long-term use is most beneficial." The "Supplement to the Meaning of Materia Medica" of the Yuan Dynasty says: "Chrysanthemum can replenish yin." Li Shizhen's "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: Chrysanthemum can benefit the five meridians, regulate the limbs, and treat the head wind and heat. It also records a myth: "The immortals said that Kang Fengzi and Zhu Ruzhi both became immortals by taking chrysanthemums." This shows the efficacy of Hangbai chrysanthemum. Tongxiang Hangbai chrysanthemum can also be consumed as tea, and its color, aroma and taste are no less than Longjing tea. Regular consumption can enhance the resistance of capillaries, inhibit the permeability of capillaries, and play an anti-inflammatory and body-building role.

Chrysanthemum is a traditional cultivated medicinal plant in my country. It is one of the eight famous medicinal materials in Zhejiang Province, and is also the best variety of chrysanthemum tea. Modern pharmacology has proven that it has the effects of stopping diarrhea, reducing inflammation, improving eyesight, lowering blood pressure, lowering blood lipids, and strengthening the body. It can be used to treat damp-heat jaundice, stomach pain, poor appetite, edema, and oliguria. Bathing with chrysanthemum soup has the functions of removing itching, refreshing the body, and protecting the skin and beautifying.
