Diabetic patients should be careful when eating pumpkin seeds

Oftentimes, when we are hungry, patients with diabetes will eat peanuts and melon seeds as a way to satisfy their hunger. Because peanuts and melon seeds are delicious and low in sugar, eating a little will make you feel full. Although peanuts and melon seeds are low in sugar, they contain more fat and are high-calorie foods. If patients with diabetic nephropathy eat them at will, do not subtract the corresponding amount of staple food according to the food exchange method, or eat too much, it will lead to an increase in blood sugar and blood lipids.

Why can't diabetics eat pumpkin seeds?

Every 100 grams of peanuts (peeled) contains 589 kcal, and every 100 grams of melon seeds (peeled) (including sunflower seeds and watermelon seeds) contains more than 570 kcal, which are higher than the calories contained in the same weight of rice, pork, mutton, chicken and duck. Unrestricted consumption of peanuts and melon seeds by diabetic patients will increase calorie and fat intake, cause weight gain, increase blood lipids, and are not conducive to the control of blood sugar and blood pressure.

Some people say that pumpkin seeds have a blood sugar lowering effect. There are also health foods made from pumpkin on the market that are specifically for diabetic patients. In fact, the view that pumpkin seeds have a blood sugar lowering effect is wrong. Although pumpkin seeds contain less sugar and dietary fiber, they contain higher fat and protein. Every 100 grams of pumpkin seeds contains 46.7 grams of fat. Eating too much is also not conducive to controlling the condition of diabetic nephropathy patients.

For nuts such as peanuts and melon seeds, eating less is good, but eating more is harmful. Generally, it is advisable to eat 15-20 grams of unshelled nuts every day. No matter how much you eat, you must strictly calculate its calories into the total amount of food for the whole day.

In fact, sometimes we still need to eat less pumpkin seeds. For diabetic patients, our health is the most important thing.
