How to choose walnuts? Tips for choosing walnuts

Walnut is the most popular nut food in life. It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, plant protein and various trace elements. People can improve their brain function and delay aging after eating it. However, the outer layer of walnut is its hard shell, and the kernel inside cannot be seen at all. Usually, after buying walnuts, the kernel inside is very small, and some have already deteriorated, which also makes people very upset. In fact, there are some tips for choosing walnuts. I will tell you about them below so that you can easily choose high-quality fresh walnuts.

1. Look at the appearance

When buying walnuts, you can first look at their appearance. Good quality walnuts are nearly round, and their shells are thin and clean, with very even and clear lines. But if the shell of the walnut is dark and has no color, it means that it has been stored for a long time. If there is oil seeping out of the shell of the walnut, it means that the walnut has deteriorated.

2. By feel

When choosing walnuts, you can also judge their quality by the feel of the hand. If you put a good quality walnut in your hand, you will feel some weight, which means that the kernel inside is full and it is a good quality walnut. But if the walnut feels very light in your hand, like a layer of skin, it means that the kernel of this walnut is very small or has deteriorated, and it is not easy to buy and eat.

3. Look at the color of the walnut kernel

When choosing walnuts, you can judge the quality of the walnut kernels by their color. The color of good quality walnut kernels is mostly yellow, slightly whitish, and sometimes dark yellow or dark brown. However, if the surface color of the walnut kernels is already dark brown, you cannot buy or eat them because they have gone bad. In addition, if the surface color of walnut kernels is amber or other colors, it means that they have been stored for too long, and such walnuts will not taste fresh when you buy them and eat them.

4. Smell

When choosing walnuts, you can also smell the natural scent it emits. Walnuts of good quality will emit a natural scent with a rich and light walnut fragrance. If you find that the walnut has an unusual smell or a sour smell, it means that the quality of the walnut is poor or it has deteriorated and is not suitable for purchase and consumption.
