Introduction to winter vegetables

Okra, also known as okra, coffee sunflower, and hairy eggplant, is native to Africa and was introduced to my country from India in the early 20th century. At present, okra has become a high-end nutritious and health-care vegetable that people are chasing after, and it is popular all over the world. Its edible part is the fruit pod, which is divided into two types: green and red. It is crisp, tender, juicy, smooth and non-greasy, and has a unique fragrance, which is deeply favored by the people. It is an annual herb with a well-developed root system and strong absorption capacity. The stem is upright and branched, covered with bristles, 1 to 2.5 meters high; the leaves are heteromorphic, usually palmately 5-lobed, the lobes are lanceolate, and the tip is gradually pointed; the edges have blunt serrations, and the petioles are slender; hollow; the flowers are herbaceous, colorful, and have ornamental value; the fruit is a capsule, like a sheep's horn, 8-20 cm long, green or red; the seeds are spherical, gray-black, and weigh about 55 grams per thousand.

Okra likes warmth and light, is heat-resistant and afraid of cold. It not only requires long hours of light, but is also drought-resistant, moisture-resistant and not waterlogged. Okra has a wide adaptability to soil, but loam or sandy loam with deep soil, fertile and loose soil, and strong water and fertilizer retention is preferred. Okra, also known as yellow okra, is native to China and Japan. It likes warm, humid and sunny environments, is not cold-resistant, afraid of stagnant water and wind, and is suitable for growing in loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam.

The young fruit of okra contains a viscous liquid and arabinan, galactan, rhamnose, protein, calcium oxalate, etc. Regular consumption helps digestion, enhances physical strength, protects the liver, and strengthens the stomach and intestines. Okra contains special medicinal ingredients that can strengthen the kidneys and replenish deficiency, and has an auxiliary therapeutic effect on male organic diseases. It is a suitable nutritional and health-care vegetable and enjoys the reputation of "plant Viagra". Because okra is rich in trace elements such as zinc and selenium, it can enhance the body's anti-cancer and anti-cancer abilities. In addition, it is rich in vitamin C and soluble fiber, which not only has a health-care effect on the skin, but also can make the skin white and tender.
